From the February 26, 1935 edition of the Chickasha Daily Express:

Quote from: Chickasha Daily ExpressCHANGE HIGHWAY NUMBERING.
Oklahoma City, Feb. 26 (AP)-Odd numbers will designate north-south highways in Oklahoma, under a new redesignation order issued by the state highway department. Efforts will be made for "sensible" numbering which will mean that roads in the same decimal series will run through the same general section of the state. Highway engineers will work out the new system.

This system was obviously never implemented, as the lion's share of north-south state highways in Oklahoma are even numbered.

This is the first I've ever read about a proposed renumbering. I wonder why they decided not to do it.

The February 28 issue of the Guymon Daily Herald quotes the Commission as deciding to defer the renumbering.
