Remember that some melting does happen even below freezing if the sun is out.
Evaporation mostly - and a lot of it actually

In northern Alabama, we were supposed to transition to rain as evening approached. However, it's taking forever to get above 32 degrees so it has been freezing rain most of the day from Huntsville off to the west.

I find nothing about this storm to be sublime.
Indiana: counties 100%, highways 100%
Illinois: counties 100%, highways 61%
Michigan: counties 100%, highways 56%
Wisconsin: counties 86%, highways 23%

You may sublime while enjoying the weather.

Which is still a type of evaporation in my book...

A bit back to topic. As part of emergency preparation, I took out and checked my snow shoes.

Our roads in Lawton quickly became treacherous around 4:30pm Friday when the frozen precip began falling. I left work around 4:00pm, ran a last minute errand and by the time I got home at 4:30pm I had liquid ice caking across my truck's windshield. By 6:00pm the local news was reporting numerous vehicle accidents, including some rollovers. A semi truck got jack-knifed across the Northbound lanes of I-44 at the Rogers Lane exit and shut down the highway for some time.

The streets in my neighborhood have a bunch of ice and sleet built-up. I don't plan on going anywhere until I have to drive to work Monday morning. As of early Saturday evening I'm waiting on round 2 of the storm to arrive. We're supposed to get most of our snow tonight into Sunday morning.

One positive thing to report: it looks like the temperature won't fall down as cold as previously forecast. Our temps may be in the mid single digits early Monday morning rather than a few degrees below zero.

Not subduction?

No snow yet in Jackson County. However, it has stared to fall in Bluefield, Huntington, and Charleston. 16 degrees and rising.

I actually had that. A major snow caused driveway rise by some 2", breaking the seam to the street. More precisely, it was snowmelt soaking soil underneath... Still...

And for the women, our bidet seat does have what the remote control calls a "front" wash ("feline"). For obvious reasons, I have no comment on that feature. My wife used it once that I know of and was noncommittal, but given that we've had the thing for almost two years, the fact that as far as I know she's only used it once is comment enough on her views. (But she did say she was astonished at how effective the "bum wash" was.)

Carrie and I watched Doctor Zhivago this afternoon.  Is there anything that says 'weekend hibernation' more than that?

I don't know.  There's some ugly scenes in there and then the tragedy of it all...

Snow should be arriving in Massachusetts around 11-12 today.

The_Ginger

Last night, the snow here was just picking up. Now, it has stopped in favor of ice that is coming down mildly hard now.

With snow now spreading along the east coast, Florida and... Nebraska... are currently the only states without any snow cover.

Little to no plowing of Interstates in Maryland has occurred so far. Granted it's Sunday.

It just switched from snow to sleet here.  That wasn't supposed to happen quite so soon, so I wonder if it will switch back and forth a bit in the next couple of hours.

It looks like we got about six inches of snow.

After dinner, I pulled out my season one Twilight Zone DVDs and got through most of them (I always skip "Nightmare as a Child").  More of the same today with going into season two.

Light snow is still coming down.  Lots of plowing on my road, but it's a city road and a main school bus route (the bus yard is a half-block away) so that's the norm.

15" so far in Indianapolis! It started snowing yesterday evening, and while roads were in good shape then, with pre-treating, they are now all snow-covered and near impassable. INDOT can't keep up with the snowfall and extreme cold, and Indy's DPW has been chronically underfunded for many years, so our major roads haven't been plowed well. (Blame the state for the decades of mismatched funding.) We will barely get to 0°F during the nights, and the daytime temperatures won't be going above freezing for over a week or more.

It's currently icing/raining. Temps are at 31 and rising.

We got some snow on top of the sleet.  Road conditions aren't that bad around here.  Due to the cold, it's mainly staying frozen.  It isn't doing the halfway melt and freeze into an ice sheet trick we usually see.  Tomorrow the high is in the upper 20s, so that might change.

Before shoveling this morning, I measured four inches out in the middle of the driveway.  The sun is out now, so, even at 10°F, the last little bits of snow on the driveway are melting nicely.

Our family is staying home from church today, but only because a few of us are still sick from a recent mild COVID-like something-or-other that four of the five came down with last week.  I moved the car into the street while I shoveled the driveway, and I did drive around the block afterward, but just to help recharge the battery a little faster before parking in the driveway again.  Not sure yet if Carrie and I will go to the gym later (I've been feeling fine for a while, and she never did come down with anything).  Our vehicle is a little '02 Ford Focus, so, even though I'm a confident and capable winter weather driver, driving that light little thing is still an adventure;  the least bit of snow on the road, and it slips and slides everywhere.

Still raining here. Temps are around 33. A lot of snow is melting off of our house, but the snow on the ground is intact still.
