Kearney Boulevard Arch (Fresno)

Kearney Boulevard is a seventeen-mile-long scenic highway located in Fresno County.  The original eleven miles of palm, eucalyptus and oleander lined highway was opened from Fresno Street in downtown Fresno west to the property of Martin Theo Kearney in 1887.  Keaney's so-called Chateau Fresno Park would be rebranded as "Kearney Park" following his death in 1903 and later became the first Fresno County Park in 1949.  The Kearney Boulevard Arch at the westbound beginning of the corridor was erected by the city of Fresno in 1933.

That's less of an "arch" than an "a  h".

I notice that a lot of the road has alternating eucalyptus and palm trees, but there are lots os missing ones. Too bad they haven't replaced the ones that died.

Funny how you can drive a road like 180 without ever realizing that the next road over is something interesting.

Yeah that is something isn't it?  Whitesbridge (CA 180) west of downtown is about dull as it gets.  I was tired of taking 180 and Avenue 7 to Firebaugh the day I took these photos.  I end up on Kearney a couple times a year since it actually one of the few pleasant roads west of 99 around Fresno.
