Driving past this bridge--and looking it on Google Earth--I have a question. Why is this bridge made so wide? Wouldn't it be easier, and cheaper, to build two spans, one for each direction?

Any thoughts?

For a couple years after the new US 33 alignment was built, SR 681 crossed US 33 at grade here. SR 681 was relocated under the bridge around 2007, with this reconfigured to a RIRO interchange.

I believe the wide overpass was to accommodate a left turn lane for US 33 westbound traffic wanting to turn left onto SR 681.
