Well, if everyone on the platform generally agrees about everything, that doesn't really present a lot of opportunity for discussion, which is kinda one of the points of social media. I'll leave it at that.

I like Instagram. It's basically the only social media I use anymore.

This goes both ways. It's why alt platforms such as gab, parler, and truth social are wastelands which aren't really the bastions of free speech that they claim to be.

Instagram was originally designed to be image-oriented, which sucks for those of us who prefer to read words instead of look at pictures.

Pictures and short form videos represent most of the elements of social media which aren't just egocentric junk. Sure, instagram opened the door for influencer culture, but the limitations of instagram also work in its favor because most people are a lot more willing to record what they see rather than tell an interesting story with a few hundred words on Facebook. The story can be told in a caption or through the comments.

One of the limitations of MySpace which led to its downfall was that users were unable to directly comment on a post, but that also led to more outside engagement and direct messages which are a healthier way of interacting with posts on a platform meant to spark everyday discussion. Going back to a form of that through archived stories and pinned posts is why I prefer instagram these days.

Meanwhile, that puts me off the platform entirely. I don't want to watch a recording of someone rambling for two or three minutes hoping they eventually get to the point. I could have read the text version three times by then.

I hate when one says the economy is going to crash. Has a ten minute video that he talks over and over again during that ten minutes of the same thing. All is implied is not if its going to happen, but when it will happen.

Never getting to how and when that will be during the first five minutes. That's when I lose interst and stop watching.

Now I turn off after the first minute.

This one particular video was during Obama as president.  The guy said he is neither Democrat or Republican,  which to either party sees one as the opposite.  I'm sure many Obama followers then thought it was typical propaganda.

I think social media is the reason why America is so screwed up. Not Washington! It antagonizes the people and all thus AI bullshit with Clickbait is another reason to go to you know where.
