Didn't see a thread for this, so I thought I'd start one. A thread for construction signs that still remain despite the projects they were intended for being completed years ago.

There are these signs in Chester, VA that I believe were either for a Discount Tire store or the Cinema Cafe nearby, which opened near the end of 2020:

The earliest streetview capture of the first sign goes back to August 2021, and both sets of signs remain to this day. The positioning of the second sign shows it aligning with the Discount Tire store's entrance, but a September 2019 Streetview in the first link shows both Discount Tire and the Cinema Cafe being built at about the same time, without the signs, and with Discount Tire being much further along in construction.

In Las Vegas, the I-15 SB flyover off ramp to Tropicana Ave EB had a "Road Construction Ahead" sign posted on the left side near the touchdown point. It's gone now, but it was posted there for at least a decade...maybe longer (it's been a long time since road construction signs around these parts used the phrase "road construction" and simplified to "road work").

April 2009 (earliest StreetView): https://maps.app.goo.gl/3WCBoMzHRhv6YgYo6 - there's actual road work in the background, but I don't think it's the work the sign was meant to warn about
April 2019 (last StreetView appearance): https://maps.app.goo.gl/8HWahNCcMbPopSMG7 - the orange is quite faded by this point (the sign faces southwest)
March 2020 (it's gone): https://maps.app.goo.gl/TbzTK1R5Khoe1oxz9

Found another one in Chester, VA:

This one's a leftover from the VA 10 superstreet project that wrapped up around early 2024. Instead of removing this sign along with all the others, they just turned it backwards for some reason.

Tendies

AZ-101N at Thunderbird (Exit 12), abandoned info sign that just flashes "TIME TO I-17" "X MINS 10 MILES". It was left there sometime in late 2024 and was just never picked up. I've seen it turned a few times but it always gets put back. Makes no sense, given that about a mile ahead, ther'es a variable message sign that also displays the travel time to I-17.

This ghostly former detour sign was left alongside the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge heading into Covington, KY until it was finally removed sometime in 2022:

GSV shows that as far back as 2007 it was sitting there becoming one with nature, but it was still at least partially orange.

Not nearly as old as the other examples cited, but there still are a few signs leaning against the retaining wall on southbound M-10 in Detroit from last year's M-8 repaving project.

I might as well crosspost this... on TX 6 near Navasota, construction VMSs have been left to serve as exit signage, with no other construction signs remaining in the area:

Quote from: CoreySamson on March 18, 2026, 05:04:50 PMEncountered this oddity last week. It's not necessarily an interesting sign, but the lack of a sign. At the new TX 6/FM 2 interchange near Navasota, the only advance exit signage for this exit is a VMS:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/pdVULV7CZBhx1uNC6

It has been this way for about 6 months, and the rest of the construction has ceased; there aren't even any other construction signs in the area!

This sign was up from at least 2009 through late 2023: https://maps.app.goo.gl/aUz2yNHfCrBUPpkJ7

It was for the I-84/I-87 interchange construction which ran from ~2003 through 2009.

This sign was up near where my mom used to live since about 2008, until it was finally removed a year or so ago after a different construction project was completed.

I've got the opposite problem on Kellogg here in Wichita.  A few months ago, this "work zone" speed limit sign went up, complete with one of those "your speed" displays.  I don't remember exactly when it went up, but the GSV shot is from February.  Here we are in April, and there still hasn't been one little bit of road construction there.

Maybe it's a "Misplaced Construction Sign", who knows?
