Sex is not as complicated as you think it is.

I don't think it is particularly complicated, nor taboo. Hence, why a woman that has chosen to enjoy it doesn't get written off by me.

Yeah. There's definitely the incel vibes coming from the discussion.

People can believe whatever they want.  Those beliefs aren't consequence free and can result in someone ending up alone.  I'm not buying that a guy who tracks his own self defined dating statistics is happy about not finding a woman who would tolerate him.

That's the in part of incel -- involuntary. I'm sure there are plenty of incels who have delusions that they're giving up on women voluntarily. It's like me trying to run a 4:00 mile. I can say I'm training to do it all I want, but the reality is that genetics and other factors mean I'll never achieve that goal. But I can say that it's voluntary that I won't ever achieve it.

Is this a good time to point out that I took his Facebook post completely out of context, and that it had nothing to do with women or sex at all?

Quote from: Beltway on April 14, 2026, 09:57:41 AMI know people that dated just one person, met in high school, and are still married to them in their 70s.

I think my mom may have dated a guy or two before she met my dad.  Not sure if my dad ever dated anyone else.  They were both born one year before you were, met during their sophomore or junior year of high school, and have been happily married for 53 years and counting.

To avoid confusion, I'll call the person I was dating (if you could actually call it that, since it was long-distance) Chelsea, even though that's not her name. There's too much ambiguity using "her" for all of Chelsea, Chelsea's parents, and my mom.

My mom sent a letter to Chelsea's parents saying that they were controlling the relationship instead of Chelsea (which was absolutely true), and Chelsea's parents took it very poorly, sending something back that my mom doesn't realize that Chelsea has autism (we knew since the beginning; we met on a website for people with autism although it wasn't a dating website) and that they know how to handle Chelsea better than my mom does. Chelsea's parents then ended the relationship without Chelsea's input.

I had no contact with Chelsea's parents (except for the one time we met in person), but they would text my mom regularly during the relationship.

No.  I quoted a portion of a 2+ year-old Facebook post that had nothing to do with this conversation.  It had the phrase "body count" in it, but in a completely different context.

It's a practice I like to call Creative Snipping (CS).

Old people watch Fox News all day.  Young people can't pay attention to anything for longer than 15 seconds.  People in between, like me, mostly want to watch older stuff.  That's the domain of non-network broadcast, basic cable, and streaming.  A lot of the stuff I like to watch is even on free streaming, where it has fewer ads than television broadcasts or cable channels you pay to watch.  To survive, the networks need to convert their programming to 10 second videos, pornography, and conspiracy theories.  If you want to compete, you have to give the people what they want.

Same here.

Carrie and I do enjoy watching a new show every so often, but we have zero interest in finding out when it airs.  We'd much rather just wait a year and then watch it at our leisure on a streaming service.  Half the time, it's a show that went immediately to streaming without ever airing on actual TV.  And that's fine by us.

I do enjoy finding a random old movie to watch on cable.  I don't often happen upon movies from the 1970s or earlier on streaming services.  Usually when I watch stuff that old it is because it just happens to be on cable.  I watched an hour of The Ten Commandments the other day when I was flipping through channels.  I completely forgot Vincent Price was in said film.
