But I can say that it's voluntary that I won't ever achieve it.
Volcel -- voluntarily celibate until you meet someone you want to be with.

Labels based on false premises don't apply.
People can believe whatever they want, but that doesn't make it accurate.

I mean, isn't everyone voluntarily celibate until they find someone they want to have sex with (and that person wants to reciprocate)? It's not like others are walking around the streets saying "I'm not attracted to you and I am not aroused by your presence. Want to have sex?"

Not really -- some guys don't seek an LTR, they maintain a rotation of ONS and FWB and adjust their standards to where they can do that. Or use the SI. Or try to but in reality they are an AFC.

I guess I see a distinction between "voluntarily choosing not to have sex with anyone" and "wanting to have sex only with someone with whom I am in a committed relationship".

You're lying -- and/or creatively editing something from many years ago -- and Facebook does not have an archive that would support extracting something like that.

Again, where is your Christian integrity?

Quote from: Beltway on April 15, 2026, 01:30:32 PMYou are a very wise person.

I went to prom my junior year.  The sister of one of my classmates, who had already graduated from high school, asked me, and I said yes.  It became quickly apparent that the only reason she asked me is because college freshmen were only allowed to the high school prom if they were a current student's date, so she picked me as her doorway in.  She never spent a minute with me at the dance, and she left not long into it to go drinking with her friends.

During prom week of my senior year, I was in the Chicago area visiting a college.  I figure I had a much better time at that than I would have at prom.

Can you tell I wasn't popular?

Same here.

Carrie and I do enjoy watching a new show every so often, but we have zero interest in finding out when it airs.  We'd much rather just wait a year and then watch it at our leisure on a streaming service.  Half the time, it's a show that went immediately to streaming without ever airing on actual TV.  And that's fine by us.

I do enjoy finding a random old movie to watch on cable.  I don't often happen upon movies from the 1970s or earlier on streaming services.  Usually when I watch stuff that old it is because it just happens to be on cable.  I watched an hour of The Ten Commandments the other day when I was flipping through channels.  I completely forgot Vincent Price was in said film.

For older stuff, look on the free services.  I'm most familiar with Pluto and Tubi.  Tubi has a lot of weird stuff, like those freaky horror movies from the 80s.  I recently watched Coffy and became an instant Pam Grier fan.  That's from the 70s.  They have older stuff, even going back more than a hundred years, with music and captions (the earliest I've seen is 1923).  There are also a lot of documentaries about old movies and television.  I recently watched one about Lucy and Desi.  It showed the sets of I Love Lucy, with cameras and the audience, things I'd never seen.  There's some great stuff on the free services.

My grandpa would say things like that and he was super religious (Christian) also.  He kept wondering why so many in our family wanted nothing to do with church or religion.

kphoger

Islamophobia has a long and strong history within Christianity.  If you look back at all the failed predictions over the centuries of when the Second Coming and Final Judgment would happen, you'll find that a lot of very well-known Christians based their predictions on the timing of the rise of Islam.

I admit that not all anti-Muslim sentiment is completely unwarranted, but I really can't stand it when people assume all Muslims are fanatical terrorists or something.  The sort of stuff that some Christians were saying last year about Dearborn mayor Abdullah Hammoud, for example, made me really hot under the collar.

Bringing in material from other platforms isn't appropriate here for several reasons:
- It imports off‑site disputes into this forum.
- It introduces context other members can't verify.
- It shifts discussion away from the topic and toward personal history.
- It risks exposing personal information, which the guidelines prohibit.

For those reasons, I'm not engaging anything imported from outside the forum.

Plus if people know you in real life, they might connect your real name before your screen name, so it's not always an act of malice unless they have explicitly told you they would rather go by their screen name in all interactions.

I guess my screen name is so intertwined with me among the road enthusiasts I interact with off-forum that it's the only name they really associate with me. Not bad for something a bit cringey that I have been using as a screen name since I was around 13, and even more remarkable since I joined the forum as an extraordinarily dumb 17-year-old. I don't keep my name a secret here, either--anyone is free to call me CJ Betcher as they please.
