Sand Canyon Road is an approximately six-mile highway mostly located in the city of Santa Clarita.  The Sand Canyon Road corridor begins at the terminus of Little Tujunga Canyon which is located in the namesake Sand Canyon.  Northbound Sand Canyon Road continues over the Santa Clara River and Antelope Valley Freeway (California State Route 14) to a terminus at Sierra Highway (former US Route 6).

Sand Canyon Road originally only spanned from Sand Canyon in the San Gabiel Mountains north to Lost Canyon Road.  The corridor was extended to Sierra Highway during the late 1930s.  The Sand Canyon Road interchange with the Antelope Valley Freeway opened to traffic during August 1963.

Not to be confused with the other Sand Canyon Road, which intersects CA-58 east of Tehachapi.

There's an episode of the TV show 24 (in Season 6) where Sand Canyon Road (the Santa Clarita one) is mentioned as the exit is passed going southbound on CA-14 (which didn't quite make sense in terms of the broader geography of the plot, but road-related things rarely do on 24). It even has a 24 fandom wiki page.

OSM and Google both show Sand Canyon Rd going all the way up to the Santa Clara Divide Rd. Google also (possibly erroneously) shows another bit of Sand Canyon Rd going south off Santa Clara Truck Trl past the Forest Service fire station. Naturally, there isn't a street sign anywhere. Where do you find this contrary information?

Also, I'm surprised you didn't include a picture of the algae warning signs.

Thought that I got the algae sign in my photo bursts, but they came out blurry.  I didn't discover the issue until I was editing my photos.

Regarding your first question it has been several months since I wrote this blog along with the one for Little Tujunga Canyon Road.  I recall finding a source showing differences to the two most popular mapping softwares.  I want to say it was USGS or something from the Division of Highways, but the answer isn't leaping to mind at the moment.  I'll look around after I get off this US Route data grind I'm working for Fallon, NV.

Edit:  Seems it was the 1935 Division of Highways map of Los Angeles County that I was using as my data point.  Said map displays Sand Canyon Road ending at the wash in Bear Canyon.  Given that is the only map that actually displays a clear transition point between Sand Canyon and Little Tujunga I ran with it.  I didn't find anything in USGS data or other local map sets which suggests a clearer answer to where the Sand Canyon/Little Tujunga transition is located.  Thus far nobody has really offered an enticing contradiction other than modern map software shows something different.  To your point, Los Angeles County doesn't sign the transition at all.
