Aside from the well-known and relatively recent 41, 69, and 74, that is. (I would have put this specification in the thread title, but the character limit wouldn't allow that.)

Or, to put it another way: before I-41 was designated along US 41 in Wisconsin and I-74 along parts of US 74 in North Carolina, and before I-69 was extended into Texas bringing it close to US 69, what was the closest that a given Interstate highway came to the US highway of the same number?

The one that comes to mind for me is the south end of I-49 at I-10 in Lafayette, LA, which is less than 200 miles from US 49 in Gulfport, MS. Other than the 41's, 69's, and 74's, can any of you think of a closer such pair?

It's 256 miles from the West end of I-24 in Southern Illinois to El Paso, IL, where I-39 meets US 24.

US 64 is 71 miles from the NC 37 exit east of Plymouth NC to I-64 in Chesapeake VA.

US 264 is 114 miles from Washington NC to I-264 at Bowers Hill VA

Dirt Roads

The completed section of I-69 at North Cleveland, Texas just is slightly than 42 miles from the US-69/US-287 multiplex just north of Village Mills.

I-65 in Saraland, Alabama -to- US-65 in Clayon, Louisiana is just a hair over 200 miles.

formulanone

182 miles (as the crow flies) between I-49 and US 49 within Arkansas.

Since 3-digit examples are rare:
When US 270 ended in Syracuse KS, it was 247 miles from I-270 in Denver.

Next question? It appears you didn't read this one yet. (Sorry, in a snarky mood for some reason.)

Yeah full disclosure I only read the title, and regardless am not interested in the question "what is the closest besides the 3 that are the closest". I should've just not responded.

Of course, by design, this is supposed to be "pretty far and not in the same state".

WISFreeways

Interstate 39 goes within twenty-five miles of US Highway 39. No, that's not Wisconsin State Highway 39 - WisDOT is known for erroneously putting in state highway shields when they should be US highways!
