It's 2026. Do you still wear a wrist watch or smart watch to tell time?

I got married, we got fat, our wedding rings were then too small, we got new ones...

...and now I haven't grown into my new ring.  Slides off easily.

I kind of hate wearing a ring because my knuckles are a little bigger than the rest of my fingers, so it slips around on my actual finger but doesn't make it past my knuckle. I always feel anxious it's gonna get stuck on my knuckle and I won't be able to get it off.

After my wedding I took the ring off and put it in the safe so I wouldn't lose it. My new wife was upset about it for a while, but after we had a discussion about why wearing it wasn't working for me (and that it had nothing to do with her or the marriage) she got over it. For a while we were wearing matching dragon-wing necklaces instead (dragons have two wings so together they would make a whole dragon) but we kind of stopped doing that too.

There's silicone band sizers to fill the gap. I need them every winter, as my fingers seem to contract a bit too much in the cold.

Otherwise, I forget it's on my hand except for the 2-3 times a year I handle a force-feedback video game controller and suddenly wonder why there's suddenly a hummingbird in the room.

I've met you.  In what world do you count as 'fat'?

I have the same issue with the ring sliding around on my skinny-with-big-knuckle finger.  But I eventually just got used to it, I guess, because I don't notice it anymore.

That's cool.  I was about to suggest that you could wear some other sort of symbolic thingy instead of rings, and there you go.

Medical world, which says I should be 25 pounds lighter than I am.  Got the "obesity" diagnosis on my medical record to boot.

Glad to have it confirmed that I carry my weight well, though.

When I got married, I was indeed about 20 pounds lighter.

The first time I went to a doctor after moving to Las Vegas (wife's insurance requires it; in Oklahoma I didn't regularly go to the doctor) I was aghast to find out that apparently doctors still think BMI means something. I thought that BMI being a crock of shit was common knowledge by now. Certainly nothing that doctor said made me feel like avoiding going to the doctor for so long was a bad decision.

Meanwhile, I'm so skinny that the handheld BMI thing at the YMCA returned an error code when I signed up about fifteen years ago, and the guy kept asking if I was sure I didn't do drugs.

When I worked at the casino in Oklahoma, instead of going to the doctor, we got a bonus for going to a "biometric screening" (which I would usually refer to as "biometric screaming" since part of it involved being stabbed) where they did various tests to you. One of the funniest things I ever saw was this huge, muscular, bald tribal police officer clutching a tiny piece of paper he got from the BMI portion and sadly reporting to his coworkers, "They said I'm obese."
