Most likely TF-2 around Santa Cruz de Tenerife, but I was only 5 at the time so I don't remember for sure. The furthest ones I remember for sure are SS 145 and SS 145 var in the Sorrentine peninsula, Italy.
Supporter of the construction of several running gags, including I-366 with a speed limit of 85 mph (137 km/h) and the Hypotenuse.

Please note that I may mention "invalid" FM channels, i.e. ending in an even number or down to 87.5. These are valid in Europe.

Weirdly enough, my farthest away clinch was at one point the closest: QC 199 is farther away than even ON 417.

Well, let me think about this...
I live in Houston...at first I thought I-8 or I-110 (CA) or I-105 would have been my furthest away--I-8's western end in San Diego is approximately 1300 miles from me...

But after looking up the actual distances--my furthest away clinch is actually the eastern Interstate 84 through PA-NY-CT.  Its eastern end at I-90 in Sturbridge, Mass is 1,820 miles away from Houston.

Mu furthest 3di clinch is probably I-395, in CT and MA--since its northern end is also near Sturbridge--

I wouldn't have any idea about my furthest clinched US highway or state highway...
I love freeways and roads in any state but Texas will always be first in my heart

Quote from: The_Ginger on July 17, 2026, 02:37:21 PMBefore my trip to Texas, I would have said I-270 in Columbus, but it's now Texas Spur 54 in Harlingen.
As far as distances are concerned, it's approximately 1275 miles as the crow flies to Spur 54. I-270 was a mere 100 miles.

For a number of years my parents lived on opposite coasts of Florida and I had to drive the entirety of Interstate 4 regularly to see both on the same trip.

It's approximately 2760 miles from where I live to the western end of I-4 in Tampa.  Since I drove I-4 when I lived in Oakland as well, that was a bit more distant, about 2820 miles.

Edit:  There are several spur interstates (I-195, I-395, I-595) plus some state routes in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area that I've clinched but for the purpose of this thread, I'm thinking of those as too short to count.

For me, I am pretty sure it is I-8 BL (Gila Bend, AZ) around 2,300 miles away.

Australia Highway 1 is the longest numbered route in the world at 9,000 miles.  Since I have been on none of it, it is the route I am farthest away from clinching...

As for the intent of the OP:

A255 in Hamburg Germany, about 4060 miles from me.

For a route I actually drove, it is BC 91 in the Vancouver area, about 2950 miles from me.

Hot Rod Hootenanny

CA 134 in Los Angeles & I-980 in Oakland.

Nah.  You're even further away from clinching highways that don't exist anymore.

Does a highway no longer exist if remember it and can still traverse it?  Tangibly I've found little personal difference whether a sign route is active on a DOT log or not.

I've clinched a handful of routes in Iceland.  Just eyeballing it, looks like the furthest away from my home is TH 845 (near Laugar) roughly 3000 miles away.

By the end of my Iceland vacation I had also clinched the Ring Road (TH 1) but it had two significant reroutings shortly thereafter, so I can't really justify the clinch anymore.  Shame, since I specifically went after that clinch.

FM 3255 in El Paso, TX, is my furthest clinch from here in Mason City, IA. The furthest I actually drove was I-395 in Baltimore, MD.

Probably Homestead Extension Florida's Turnpike.  I also have I-4, I-595, I-395, and I-195 in Miami as other candidates.

Most recent: (Unsigned) I-345 in Dallas.

Quote from: Scott5114 on July 17, 2026, 03:26:56 AMWhat highway have you fully clinched that's the farthest away from you? (You decide what is important enough to count and what point you're measuring from; it may be more meaningful to have multiple answers if you've spent long amounts of time in your adult life in different regions, to have separate domestic and international answers, to exclude Alaska and Hawaii, etc.)

Mine, measuring from Las Vegas, appears to be Interstate 43. I haven't clinched anything farther east or north than that. (It would be M-28 if I hadn't blown the clinch by not getting the portion east of I-75.) If I measure from Oklahoma, it'd be CA 75, though of course I didn't live in Oklahoma when I clinched CA 75 so that's kind of a BS answer. The farthest-away clinch I had when I actually lived in OK would have been NV 159, which is just a few miles away from me now.

I'm pretty sure that, for me, it's the entire Coast and Beach roads (and well as the Bush Road) on Sint Maarten / Saint Martin. That would be a great circle distance of 3779 miles from where I live now and roughly the same from where I lived at the last time that I did it. It's 3766 miles from where I lived the first time that I did it.

ModernDayWarrior

Mine is technically CA 156 (1,995 miles away) though I was nine years old when I clinched this road on a trip to California with my grandparents and don't actually remember any of it.

Of roads I've driven myself and remember, it's US 163 at 1,193 miles away. This is also the only US route I have currently clinched, since I lost my clinch of US 48 when the Kerens-Parsons segment opened last month.

SS 44 in Südtirol, Italy, 5,756 mi/ 9,264 km from Reno. Ever so slightly closer than Salzburg and Glurns, where I also have clinched routes. SS 44 is a hell of a drive, crossing Jaufenpass and passing through some stunning Alpine valleys.

AK 9 is my furthest clinch, at 2310 miles away. Staying in the lower 48, my answer here is FL 614, at 1650 miles away. I don't have any of those fancy international clinches like many of y'all have written here.

TBKS1

My farthest clinch away from home right now I believe would either be CA 163 or CA 282 in San Diego. I got those back in March 2025.
