We have various streaming services that we use via Roku.  I've started just turning on the TV and using the Roku search itself, so it can tell me which services offer the thing I want to watch.

I like Apple TV since at least to date if I'm paying for it I don't have to watch commercials.  For freebies I like Pluto TV.

I'm starting a new streaming service.  It's just $2 per month.  It delivers all the best ads for other streaming services, and you can sign up for them directly through my service, so I get a cut of that, too.

I'm going to kick myself if someone steals my idea and it actually works.  In part because I could have made a bunch of money, and in part out of despair for how stupid people must be to fall for that.

A lot of the older stuff I want to watch is on the free services.  I'm not interested in "premium" content because that means "new" and I don't like most new stuff.

I recently signed up for BritBox.  It's inexpensive and ad free.  I like British comedies.  I've watched Hyacinth get embarrassed, listened to stories about Mrs. Slocombe's cat, and been fascinated by Arkwright's salesmanship for decades.  I like the dry, subtly humor of the older material.  I also like the roundabout suggestiveness of it, just hinting at something in a way that's easy to miss if you're not familiar with it.  That humor, although it's raunchy, is quite sophisticated, as understanding it relies on slightly different shades of a thought.  That kind of thinking helps me with crossword puzzles (I'm a lifelong newspaper reader and a recent convert to crosswords).  As an example, a clue that stands out in my memory was "spelling aid" and the solution was "voodoo doll."  Another clue referred to a movie franchise about a dreamy and breathtaking man and after I got enough letters filled in, I realized it was "A Nightmare on Elm Street."  If you think about the words a little differently, you realize that Freddy Krueger is a dreamy and breathtaking man.

There's an annual discount, but I got it monthly.  There isn't a deluge of content, as most of the shows had only a few dozen episodes, so I may not want it for a whole year.  I got to watch Still Open All Hours, which was good, although I wish Nurse Gladys had stayed on.  And I got to see Harry Potter play David Copperfield and get adopted by his aunt Minerva.

Of the ones we subscribe to, I watch Apple TV the most because there are a couple of good shows (For All Mankind, Silo, Ted Lasso is coming back in two weeks, and I haven't yet started the Star City spinoff from For All Mankind; my wife watches several others but I'm not sure what). I tried watching Severance based on a recommendation from my cousin and her husband, but I just couldn't get into it. Apple TV also carries Major League Soccer and Formula One.

My wife subscribes to two services that stream British and Australian programming (BritBox and Acorn TV), but I don't watch either of them and I have no comment. She has PBS Passport access based on donating to two local PBS stations. And she watches some stuff on Netflix. I occasionally watch Netflix, but not often enough to have any significant comments about it. Most of my TV-watching, aside from the Apple TV shows mentioned above and Jeopardy! every night, consists of either sports or the evening news.

Heh heh heh.... while I still have all of my physical media, I also created digital files for my Plex media server. The best of both worlds without all the fees. (But that media cost... yeah, don't wanna think about it.)
