I searched but could not find any record of this on the board: There could be volumes, just the search bot is not up to the task.

Back in 2001 Richard Ankrom carefully "corrected" a confusing signage issue in L.A.

Technically, it was vandalism. The sign was "technically" correct before his vandalism. (The sign directing people to this lane to access I-5 was on a sign on the far right shoulder at a far lower installation height.

What do you think?

Let's build what we need as economically as possible.

Here's a post in the <Sign Changes submitted by Roadgeeks> thread.  It has links to an article in The Slate as well as a Youtube video (possibly the same as yours).

Also, <Scott5114> once suggested that one of our more famous Roadgeeks actually contact Richard Ankrom when researching "Roadgeeks who Changed the World" book (thread under the same name).  That member indicated that he was already planning to discuss the Ankrom sign.  No idea if he ever published his book.  Probably too busy living life in Jeopardy.

I think it was great that he did what he did, and that he put so much effort into getting it to spec...but the way he did it technically created an I-5/CA-110 concurrency rather than actually marking the left lane as being for I-5.

He did—it's called Maphead.

His story got shared a couple times on the Pacific Southwest board.  I can't recall what threads they were in though.

I bought a copy of his DVD as a thank-you. It's vandalism. But it was helpful. Both these things can be true.
