Quadrant Turn Intersection in New Haven, IN

Saw at SR 930 and Maplecrest Road that a left turn prohibition is been installed causing drivers to go around extra turns and extra signals to make what was once a simple left.


Has anyone heard of this type of design and actually seen one?

Looks pretty neat, despite the extra turns.

Bricktown, NJ has one ( sort of) on Route 70 at Route 88/ Princeton Ave.

It has a jughandle EB on Rt 70 to turn left into the quadrant roadway, but no left turn from 70 East to 88 West or a jughandle there.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

Much like a Michigan-left, it's meant to cut the number of signal cycles and reduce conflict points by banning left turn movements at the intersection.

EBD 930 to NBD Maplecrest Rd will have it easiest, with all right-turns. WBD 930 to SBD Maplecrest will have two left turns, but that's unlikely to become a high-volume movement anytime soon.

In the Front Royal case, I'm not sure if any consideration was given to leveraging the bridge over the South Fork Shenandoah River to just do a grade separation instead. The bridge is six lanes wide to accommodate dual turn lanes at the quadrant roadway.
