Actor turned politician Ben Jones dies at 84

He was best known for playing Cooter Davenport on The Dukes of Hazzard from 1979 to 1985.  Later he served in the U.S. House of Representatives for two terms.

I'm genuinely sad about this one. The Dukes of Hazzard is one of my favorite TV shows of all time (people who know me know that I own the entire series on DVD; I'm not old enough to have watched the original TV run but caught the reruns they used to show on TNN) and I've also visited his museum of Dukes memorabilia in Nashville. Still have a picture sitting in the drivers' seat of the General Lee.

He also had a great second act in Democratic politics and contributed to the political downfalls of both Newt Gingrich and Eric Cantor, so there's that, too.
