In southwestern Pennsylvania, PennDOT has taken to parking portable VMS along major roads to advertise seasonal jobs as they gear up for the winter. Has anyone seen any other agencies do this sort of thing?

NYSDOT.  Pretty common.

I've seen plenty of that here in Harrisburg too.
I am now a PennDOT employee.  My opinions/views do not necessarily reflect the opinions/views of PennDOT.

Virginia has been doing this a while...

NJDOT has done this for winter snow contractors and for State Police.

I'm pretty sure I've seen this done by a private business rather than a state agency.

Nope, I remember now.  I once saw a portable VMS used to advertise for people to become state troopers, outside the troop headquarters, facing a four-lane state route.

I have never seen anything like that around here.  This thread does remind me of a conversation I had with my father a couple of years ago:

He was saying that I'd gotten lucky getting the job I still have with New Castle County, that you need inside information to find public-sector jobs.

My reply was something like "Dad, right now the State [of Delaware] has billboards and radio ads all over, inviting people to come work for them."  And that was the truth, at least at the time.
