Looks like this will be reopening ahead of schedule!

https://transportation.ky.gov/NewsRoom/I-65%20to%20Reopen%20Ahead%20of%20Schedule.pdf

Towards the end of this news release from KYTC is this:
QuoteA total of nine bridges on the I-65 corridor are being replaced or rehabilitated as part of the project. The first three bridges are those most in need of repair. The additional six bridges are the I-65 bridges over Liberty Street, Floyd Street, Chestnut Street, Jacob Street/Broadway/Gray Street, Muhammad Ali Boulevard/Brook Street (known locally as "Hospital Curve") and the Muhammad Ali Boulevard on-ramp.

The best approach to replacing or rehabilitating those bridges is being identified. It will include a phased approach with lane restrictions in place. An updated timeline for project completion will be available when the approach is final.

I'm betting that I-65 through downtown Louisville will be under construction for another 2-3 years.

It'll turn into I-75 through Dayton which I cannot ever remember not being under construction during my lifetime. Not surprised that all of the bridges need work around the same time since they were likely built around the same time.

US 27 Corridor Study

In 2021, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) completed the Imagine Nicholasville Road (INR) study, which subsequently was formally adopted by the Lexington Planning Commission. INR recommended transforming US 27 into a Complete Street featuring transit-oriented development (TOD), bus rapid transit (BRT), improved bicycle and pedestrian safety and connectivity, and enhanced placemaking. The US 27 Corridor Study advances those recommendations by evaluating their feasibility, particularly the transportation elements, and developing conceptual designs and cost estimates to guide the next phases of implementation.

US 60 Improvements

"The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is advancing plans to improve US 60 (Lexington Road/Versailles Road) from the Bluegrass Parkway to Pisgah Pike in Woodford County. The project is intended to improve safety, increase roadway capacity, and enhance traffic operations along this important regional corridor.

In the 2026 Enacted Highway Plan, funding for the remaining phases of the project are:

$1,070,000 Right of Way Acquisition – Fiscal Year 2027
$2,340,000 Utility Relocations – Fiscal Year 2028
$6,910,000 Construction – Fiscal Year 2031

The proposed project includes widening US 60 from its current configuration to a six-lane roadway throughout the project corridor. In addition, the intersections of Huntertown Road and Pisgah Pike will be reconstructed as Reduced Conflict U-Turn (RCUT) intersections to improve safety and reduce conflict points while maintaining access for motorists."

It looks like the mountable median is being removed for a unmountable median, with six lane widening for that project's length. It won't be long before the remainder of US 60 between Versailles and Lexington will be six lanes, hopefully.

US 421 Between US 62 (Paynes Depot Rd) and Weisenberger Mill Rd

"At the Preliminary Line and Grade meeting on January 8, 2026, the Project Team recommended Alternative No. 4 (Peanut Roundabout) as the preferred alternative for advancement with Phase II Final Design. Alternative No. 4 (Peanut Roundabout) would improve safety and travel reliability for road users along Leestown Rd at the intersections with Weisenberger Mill Rd and Paynes Depot Rd while limiting Right-of-Way costs compared to the development of a new 4-way intersection."

East Danville Connector: KY 34 - US 150 Bypass

"The purpose of this project is to explore and provide feasible solutions to improve the saftey, mobility, and connectivity in the East Danville/Boyle County area between KY 34 and US 150 Bypass."

I would really like to see KYTC upgrade the Bluegrass Parkway interchange with US 60 to include a second flyover ramp from traffic exiting the freeway to US 60 west.  Very dangerous left turn there.

They could conceivably do this without losing too much farmland if they realigned the original BG to US 60 exit ramp much closer to the original entrance bridge and have the left lane exit only to the east.  Meanwhile the right lane would split off to the right with a new westbound overpass over US 60 that splits from the exit ramp, would sharp curve left, then quickly dive under the original bridge like a knot.

Traffic heading in that direction from the BG Parkway can always exit at KY 33 and access US 60 that way. I'd venture to guess the traffic volumes turning left from the eastbound BG onto westbound 60 are quite low.

Drove it yesterday from Harlan toward Pennington Gap. The surface is still a base coat of asphalt; the final surface has not yet been laid. The final alignments of the intersections of the old road and new road at the top and bottom of the hill have not yet been completed.

QuoteGovernor Andy Beshear joined former Governor Steve Beshear and local, state and federal leaders to celebrate the completion of the Wolfe County segment of the Mountain Parkway Expansion.

The milestone completes 32 continuous miles of four-lane parkway, strengthening connections to jobs, education, health care and future economic opportunities across Eastern Kentucky.
