Quote from: bulldog1979 on January 28, 2026, 10:32:24 PMI'm surprised no one's mentioned exit 339 on I-75 in Mackinaw City for Jamet Street. The saving grace with that RIRO is that traffic on I-75 is slowing down to 45 mph for the Mackinac Bridge (northbound) or just coming of the bridge and not yet accelerated to 70 mph southbound.

Quote from: GaryV on January 18, 2026, 03:52:25 PMHow about this one? Even if the speed limit is 45 there and the freeway will soon turn into the Bridge.

The two most infamous interchanges on I-376 in Pittsburgh will soon be completely redesigned.

Green Tree/Crafton/Mt. Lebanon interchange (Exit 67)
Squirrel Hill/Homestead interchange (Exit 74)

It's also worth noting that the horizontal clearance of the new Green Tree Road overpass will be 150', which is enough space for an eight-lane highway with full interior and exterior shoulders in each direction.

Along with other interchange and bridge projects along I-376, I'm glad that PennDOT is finally, gradually, upgrading the highway to modern standards.

If I had ever saw this thread I would have mentioned Jamet Street in Mackinaw City like other Michiganians have already done.

I was looking for it, but no one mentioned the street name, thus I didn't find it. :-/

Meh.  Forest Park curve is like any other old urban section of expressway.  Remember that MA did a large ramp reversal project through Springfield to improve traffic safety and movements some time ago (over a decade).

Anything in New York City. The stop sign on I-278 at Atlantic is now an added lane (due to narrowing the Brooklyn Heights viaduct to two lanes each way). The northbound Deegan (I-87) still has this blind stop sign entrance in the Bronx: https://maps.app.goo.gl/KxMDWas47Cm9Y6rJ7

Excluding anything in New York City, I always found I-84 at NY 52 in Newburgh disappointing: https://maps.app.goo.gl/sArBo9ymhuEHhK3Y8 it's about 300 feet long, and should really extend a few hundred more feet to the NY 300 exit
Not every speed limit in NY needs to be 30

RobbieL2415

Two questionably substandard ramps that have a high degree of difficulty.

This one from CT 9 SB to I-95 SB.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/eAByGVSKWr1eA9Xb9

And this one on I-84 WB in Danbury.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/uS7BVa421pPv47ep6

Both ramps require two-lane movements to stay on the mainline.

Coming off of I-565 to Memorial Parkway southbound here in Huntsville is similar, where you have to merge over 2-3 lanes to stay on the Parkway's mainline (past the exit for Bob Wallace Avenue immediately south of Governors Drive, anyways):

Quote from: hbelkins on February 23, 2012, 02:02:40 PMThere are some funky right-angle ramps off southbound I-75 in Cincinnati.

Ah yes, the Cooper Avenue ramp - and even worse than that, it looks to be about a 100-degree angle on the off-ramp.  Apparently before the Lockland Split was implemented, there was a similar ramp to Patterson Avenue(?) on the opposite side.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/y37EssDfjYVUEn7eA

Southbound 75 to westbound 74 was also a lot of fun before they reconstructed it very recently.  Nice li'l 25mph curve.

Grimes/Exit 15 is a RIRO on I-78/US 22 in PA.  I get the small airport is there, but Exit 16 is not far away and is fairly normal.  It's trivial to get over to Exit 15 via the back way from Exit 16.

RobbieL2415

I would also submit these two tight cloverleaf ramps.

CT 2 EB to I-395 NB, Norwich. You cannot get up to 65mph coming off the curve. It sucks.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/pZbWSSvX7mAv8trK6
https://maps.app.goo.gl/rVyvvKxE9Lmzeb168

Exit 47W, I-91 NB, Enfield. Greater crossover distance but the curve to CT 190 is awful.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/gcHzzeMiov63NdLY6
https://maps.app.goo.gl/dF9jn89prZCmUico8

... and you have very little space to cross over to CT 190.

Funny enough, I always take Governors Dr when trying to get from 565 EB to 431 SB, but going north on 431 I take Memorial to 565 WB. That SB ramp from Memorial is always backed up

I'm surprised I-25 Exit 106 in Colorado hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet. The location is just North of Pueblo and immediately South of the BNSF rail bridge that partially collapsed on I-25 due to a train derailment in 2023. Anyway, exit 106 is very much a "WTF" situation. It's a couple very cheap RIRO hard turns built onto I-25.

I can sort of understand the really crappy exits on I-25 between Raton Pass and Trinidad. But exit 106 is in wide open territory. There was plenty of room to build the exit better -assuming it needed to be built at all.

Probably used to be "Squaw Creek."  "Crazy Woman" being a common replacement for the now considered slur term "squaw."

Nope.  Not unless they made the change before the Battle of Crazy Woman Creek in 1866.

IIRC, the speed limit in that area is 75mph. Vehicles are often going faster. So, uh, yeah. They did a "great" job with those acceleration/deceleration lanes. If you're wanting to take the Porter Draw exit you'll have around 400' to slow from 75mph or more down to a near dead stop to make a "15mph" rated hard turn. 75mph is 110 feet per second.
