Let's build what we need as economically as possible.

ARDOT sent 25 snowplows and 60 personnel to plow I-49, I-10, I-12, and US-190 as Louisiana doesn't seem to have much snow removal equipment.

LADOTD decided to add a traffic signal to the at-grade crossing of the loop ramps at the US 90/Westbank Expressway/US 90B interchange at Avondale, just west of Gretna.

This is where the ramp from westbound US 90 to eastbound US 90B crosses the ramp from westbound US 90B to eastbound US 90 going towards the Huey P. Long Bridge.

Ultimately, if I-49 South is to be built from Lafayette to NOLA, that crossing will have to be replaced with directional grade separated ramps. I-49 would transition from US 90 to US 90B at that location.

They originally had it as a stop-sign controlled intersection, incorrectly called a "four-way stop", since both ramps are only one-way.

Excellent, it only took them 60 years to do this.

Nice going, CPKC. Way to derail your trains right over major Interstate highway bridges.

No one ever said that LADOTD was swift in the brain.

Interesting fact for you signal control geeks: I wonder why they didn't just put in all arrows at the lights and make this a "NO TURNS" intersection, since with the way the interchange is designed, the only allowed turns are essentially U-turns leading you back where you came from.

Short-term future plans do call for building a flyover ramp from WB 90 to EB 90B to eliminate the crossover intersection entirely.
