If they were truly doing that they would not have approved the photo enforcement program, or voted to rescind it this past session.

I don't know how exactly it works, but most likely INDOT will probably file some paperwork to take out the variable speed limits and build the rest of the FlexRoad project.  Or they could try changing them to advisory speeds.

The South Bend Street Department is finishing up a complete facelift of Ireland Road between Ironwood Drive and Main Street. The traffic disruption has been a major headache to nearby residents, like me, and the many business along the well-traveled route, but it's great to have new curbs and a smooth driving surface.

Since I had to travel the route almost daily, I've kept close watch on the progress. One thing puzzled me about the lane-striping procedure, which I hope can be cleared up by someone more knowledgeable. I noticed the stripes appear overnight, and the next day along came a machine that appeared to scrape off the paint, rendering the bright yellow stripes a dull gray. The next day bright yellow stripes reappeared. The new stripes look like they could be tape rather than paint.

Can anyone explain this procedure? It seems to be time consuming and more expensive than just leaving the stripes that were first painted.

What you saw pre-dusk was likely the contractor laying down temporary lines to at least get the lanes open.

The scraper grinds a little off the top so that any raised thermoplastic line applications can not only stick better to the road surface, but to be slightly be under the surface so snow plows don't accidentally scrape them off in the winter.

That is the answer in a nutshell.  Feel free to elaborate.

Work on one of the bigger aspects of the "80/94 FlexRoad" Project begins this upcoming week.

Weather permitting, crews will close two lanes of I-80/94 in both directions between Grant Street and I-65 for lane shifting during the overnight hours of August 13. Also during that time, the ramps from north- and southbound Broadway (Indiana 53) to I-80/94 eastbound, along with the ramp from I-80/94 eastbound to Broadway will close.

After that, there will be alternating lane closures on Broadway to accommodate new turn lanes and signal installation. When work finishes in November, the ramp from northbound Broadway to I-80/94 eastbound will be permanently removed, replaced with a left turn entry ramp linked to the existing southbound loop ramp.

As work progresses, Broadway traffic looking to enter I-80/94 eastbound will be directed to use I-80/94 westbound to utilize the Grant Street interchange for eastbound entry. Eastbound I-80/94 traffic looking to exit to Broadway will be directed to use the Central Avenue ramp (east of I-65) then enter I-80/94 westbound to return to Broadway.

The reason: the work is part of a broader plan to facilitate safer movements for I-80/94 eastbound traffic between Grant Street and I-65. This includes extending the current auxiliary lane between Grant Street and Broadway to i-65. Traffic merging from Broadway will create a THIRD lane for I-65 southbound traffic, with the far right through lane on I-80/94 becoming an option lane. A new fourth lane will open east of Broadway, with new APL signage and interstate shield pavement markings guiding traffic through, along with more dynamic overhead signage warning far left lane drivers to merge right east of Central Avenue.

This portion of the project will be open to traffic by November, with substantial completion set for mid-2027.

Unrelated quick note: Any of you on here who travel further east on I-80/94 may have noticed a lack of activity at the Indiana 51 (Ripley Street) interchange. INDOT says it was due to an unforeseen engineering snafu, and they expect work on the interchange and bridge improvement project to resume soon.

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces repairs on the flood damaged section of I-70 westbound are ongoing in Wayne County. The goal is for crews to reopen the interstate at some point on Friday, August 14.

During this time, both lanes of I-70 westbound remain closed near Centerville at mile marker 146. Heavy rains and flooding washed a section of the road away.

Due to other roads reopening, INDOT is adjusting the detour to follow U.S. 27 southbound, U.S. 40 westbound, State Road 1 northbound, and back on I-70 westbound.

That's what happens when you have to keep the interchange open to traffic the whole time. Closing this whole area down was never possible but it could have allowed the construction crews to build the entire thing more quickly.

I can't seem to find the proposed work for the Interstate 465 / Keystone Avenue/Parkway interchange. Is this an improvement of what's already built?

I'm not aware of any plans to modify the existing interchange.

It is a project, I remember seeing it digging around in the public documents on INDOT's website looking for something else. All it says is "interchange modification" along with a list of other major projects happening in the coming years in Marion County.    maybe it has something to do with southbound traffic getting onto 465? I think that is the worst movement during rush hour but who knows.
