MoDOT held a public meeting last night in Boonville for the Boonville-to-Rocheport portion of Improve I-70 and posted the plans to the website, although we don't get a roll plot or anything like that: https://www.modot.org/improvei70/boonvillerocheport

The only notable upgrade to any of the Boonville interchanges is the addition of a roundabout at Route B and Americana Drive, about 400 feet north of the ramps to and from westbound I-70: https://www.modot.org/sites/default/files/documents/Roundabout_Overview_Board_36x48_20scale.pdf

U.S. Route 63 Highway Realignment in Osage County

This project will realign U.S. Route 63 from south of U.S. Route 50 to the Maries River in order to address safety concerns and improve the flow of traffic. In the past 10 years, this corridor has seen 190 crashes that have resulted in seven fatalities, 12 serious injuries, and 80 minor injuries.

Construction could begin as early as fall 2027 and be completed in December 2029.

This has been needed for a long time--US 63 is a very annoying drive from the US 50 junction south to about the Gasconade River bridge, and this is one of the worst parts of it. Lots of semi traffic, lots of hills and curves, several small towns, few passing opportunities. Ideally the entire stretch needs four-laned as far south as Rolla.

MoDOT released updated plans for the Blue Springs to Odessa section of Improve I-70, including plans for the Odessa/MO 131 Interchange and the Bates City/Route D Interchange.

Don't tell |tradephoric|.  He'll be triggered by the assertion that these designs are proven to reduce the number of major crashes.  And bonus points go to the presenter for bringing up the number of conflict points.

This is about as Missouri as it gets. They might as well serve KC BBQ with a side of Springfield Cashew Chicken when this opens.

Also, this is my 1,772nd post. That number matches the elevation of the highest point in Missouri, Taum Sauk Mountain.

Honestly this post made me instantly think: Indiana, INDOT, and Carmel, IN. Do the Hoosiers know of this interchange type and are they building them?

Does Missouri have a big a thing for roundabouts as Indiana?

Missouri has as big a thing for DDIs as Indiana has for roundabouts.

But yes, Missouri has also noticeably turned up the dial on their roundabout love in the last decade or so.

Take note, Missouri:  the next step in cheap interchange designs that incorporate roundabouts should be something like the cloverabout.

They got 3/4 of the way there in the late 2000s with The New I-64 project.

Well, a single point roundabout is basically just this, so it has already been done  ;-)

They definitely have some interesting interchanges. I'm impressed by their creativity.

Missouri has two of those divergeabouts in the KC area: One at US50/MO291 interchange in Lee's Summit and the other at I-49/E 155th St near Grandview/Belton area.

Another one in the area (not a divergeabout) is the I-35/MO-152 interchange in Liberty.

We also have this thing (parclobout? Rounda-parclo?) just east of Jefferson City.

That's just a parclo with roundabouts instead of stoplights.  Su-u-u-uper common in Europe, right?

If traffic projections are considered, pretty obvious to me, freeway and convert to I-49. I was there recently, and those traffic lights are just bad news. There's too much traffic for anything else, and KC does not have significant public transit infrastructure that I am aware of.

The Ghostbuster

I also would pick the freeway and extend Interstate 49 alternative. I'm surprised they're even considering this given the court order (which I didn't know was issued in 1985). Let's hope the neighborhoods agree to overturn the court order, as it's been in place long enough.

I agree with the freeway option as well. It might be more upfront cost but I like the depressed freeway option. They could do a park over the highway for part of that stretch.

https://www.ozarksfirst.com/news/work-underway-to-upgrade-dangerous-u-s-60-segment/

DIGGINS, MO –  A major project to upgrade a dangerous four-mile section of U.S. 60 through Webster County is well underway.

"In recent weeks, MoDOT contractors have started work to improve traffic flow and safety between Fordland and Diggins.  The result will be the elimination of multiple intersections and the upgrading of portions of 60 to full freeway status.

"According to MoDOT, the nearly-$40 million project entails:

Eliminating the intersections with Route A and Route NN and replacing them with a single overpass (spanning both 60 and the BNSF Railway) and interchange to the west of Diggins.
Reroute the eastbound lanes of U.S. 60 slightly to the north through the area of the interchange.  This will eliminate the wide median while providing space for the overpass and on- and off-ramps.
Constructing a new, rerouted section of NN to connect it to the new interchange. A new roundabout will be built where the new NN will connect with the original.
Constructing a new south outer road south of the BNSF, between Route NN and Route Z, to provide access to properties
Eliminating the U.S. 60 crossover intersection with Route O and connecting it with the new North Outer Road.  Right-in/right-out access will be maintained on westbound 60. Eastbound traffic wishing to access O will use the new A-NN interchange.
Removing railroad crossings at Route NN, Greenbriar Drive, Honor Camp Lane, Tandy Road, Hummingbird Lane, Bluebird Lane, and three private drives.
Remove additional highway intersections/private access at Bluebird Lane, Hummingbird Lane (south side), Honor Camp Lane (south side), Greenbriar Drive, and two private drives.

Quote from: Sani on April 10, 2025, 10:49:23 PMI emailed MoDOT about this a few weeks ago but never heard back. Are there any plans to complete the interchange improvements at U.S. 65 and U.S. 60 in Springfield? Specifically, to turn the existing southbound lanes into a C-D road and construct new southbound mainline lanes in the middle? They did half of the work already.

I got a reply from a local engineer:

QuoteYou had reached out several months ago asking if any additional improvements are planned for the 60/65 interchange area.  We do not have any plans at this time, but a study of transportation needs for this area is planned for next year.  This effort will be led by the Ozarks Transportation Organization and will include public meetings to obtain feedback.  I just wanted to make sure you were aware of this effort since you had expressed interest.
