I-80 between Gary and the Cuyahoga Valley.

I disagree. The land has just enough roll and the scenery changes just enough to keep it interesting.
Not the part between the state line and Toledo. That's a real snooze. I've come close to actually snoozing.

Agreed on all. The Indiana Toll Road portion of I-80, while not the best thing ever, does just fine by me. Once you pass Westgate, however, the quality falls off the cliff until you pass I-75.
"Slower Traffic Keep Right" means just that.

US 20 from Bend OR to Ontario OR, made worse by the inexplicable double nickel speed limit
Yeah, from Bend to about 20 miles east of Burns sucks. From Burns to Vale (which is like 15 mi W of Ontario) isn't quite as bad, lluckily. And just drive ~70 like everyone else does and the speed thing isn't a problem. If you keep it 69 or below, you should be fine everywhere mostly (just wait until you're a little ways outside the towns, particularly Bend).

I-5 from Albany to Eugene.

I-5 from Redding to Wheeler Ridge...oh my, this is the worst, I hate it, and it's so long!

US 395 from Pasco to Ritzville, continuing onto I-90 to Spokane.

For a while, I got bored of I-84 from The Dalles (or Biggs) to I-82 (when we moved from Tri Cities area to Bend), but the Columbia is parallel for almost the whole way, so it's not so bad on occasion.

US 97 from Biggs to Madras.

The most boring road I've driven is WIS 80 from Necedah to Babcock. ABout 20 miles of straight as an arrow, flat as a board road through the central sands region of Wisconsin. Nothing but trees on both sides, only broken up by a couple unincorporated burgs and a couple long, sweeping curves. The only thing interesting to look at is the rail line that follows the road on the east side, yet there is hardly ever a train on it. That road feels like it goes on forever.

BZZZZZZTTTT!!!

Wrong road in that area, the correct answer is WI 173 between WI 80 and WI 21.  All but the southern couple of sections is built on an abandoned railroad grade, arrow-straight and dead level through the forest and swamps for about 25-30 minutes of driving.

I find such roads to be interesting drives, but for most others it's a real snoozer!

I'm kinda the same way ... to an extent. If it's a road I've never driven on, it's always interesting to me regardless of how boring others might think it is. However, if I got into the habit of driving one of these roads on a regular basis, they would become extremely boring to me.

As "boring" as some of these stretches of highway are, they still are far more exciting than the most boring trip I've ever taken.  The flight between LAX and Hawai'i makes all of these exciting by comparison, even the monochromatic shit-brown colored deserts.

I said most boring road I've driven. I'm sure if I had driven that stretch of WIS 173, I'd agree with you! Driving all the hilly and curvy roads and highways of the Driftless area of SW WI makes anything that is flat and/or straight boring!

CentralCAroadgeek

US-101 between Salinas and King City are pretty boring. Just masses of flat farmland for miles. At least there's mountains in either side...

That is why I drive or ride my motorcycle to places if possible as commercial airlines are boring, not to mention a pain at security.

Former US 99 from Burlington to Marysville fits a bit of that bill, but it looks like US 6 through most of Nevada may be a better candidate.

Mdcastle

I-29 and I-94 in the Red River Valley. Also I-39 in Illinois (the only 2di interstate I've driven the length of).

kennyshark

While the Indiana Toll Road (except in the fall) and Ohio Turnpike have their boring stretches, my vote goes to Interstate 55 in Illinois from the I-70 split outside St. Louis to I-80 near Joliet.

leroys73

Good one. Not much better south to 40

I actually really like US-6 through Nevada.  US-50 as well.

Haven't had the chance to drive them, but I feel like I'd enjoy US50/US6 through Nevada.

I second both I-75 in Georgia and the post about Illinois. I have experienced I-70 and I-64 in Illinois...those put me to sleep.

kennyshark

I'll have to agree with you on I-70 in Illinois, at least until you get to I-255 near St. Louis.  Bring plenty of chocolate and caffiene!  And while I'm at it, how about the 401 in Ontario between London and Windsor.

roadman65

Interstate 10 from Lake City, FL to New Orleans, LA.
I-49 from Alexandria to Shreveport in LA.
I-75 from the FL Turnpike to Macon, GA.
US 1/ 23 from Folkston, GA to Waycross, GA.
US 19/98/27 Alternate from Cross City, FL to Perry, FL.
US 27 Alternate from Bronson, FL to Chiefland, FL
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.
