Interstate 94 runs for 46 miles from Munster at the Illinois border to near Michigan City at the Michigan border. Interstate 94 runs with Interstate 80 for 15 miles as part of the Borman Expressway through the suburbs of Northwest Indiana; the Borman is the busiest highway in the state. East of there, the highway remains busy with six lanes throughout as it passes by Chesterton and Michigan City. The interstate is used as a free interstate across the Northwest Indiana suburbs and is used as a vacation route for those in the Chicago area en route to the Indiana Dunes and Lake Michigan beaches of Michigan.
