U.S. 51 north, Wis 73 south and Wis 106 west come together at a diamond interchange (Exit 160) with I-39/90 in one mile. U.S. 51 returns to I-39 from Rockford, Illinois after traveling a local route to the west through Beloit, Janesville and Edgerton. 05/30/11
Construction completed in 2015 rebuilt Exit 160 from a parclo into a diamond interchange. STH-73 commences a lengthy route to U.S. 8 at Ingram northward from Exit 160 to Deerfield. The trunk highway meets I-39 again at Plainfield. STH-106 travels east from old U.S. 51 (Albion Road) at nearby Albion to cross paths with STH-73 en route to Fort Atkinson. 05/30/11

The city of Stoughton is the next destination for the freeway north via U.S. 51 west in ten miles. Tomah, where Interstates 90 and 94 partition, takes the place of La Crosse and Wis Dells on distance signs at 117 miles away. 05/30/11
I-39/90 run alongside Saunders Creek. U.S. 51 branches west from the freeway in one mile at a trumpet interchange (Exit 156). Work at the forthcoming exit in 2016/17 improved the ramp geometry. 05/30/11
Exit 156 departs I-39/90 for U.S. 51 west to Stoughton and north to Lake Kegonsa and McFarland. County A intersects U.S. 51 just to the west as the former alignment. 05/30/11

Madison lies 25 miles to the northwest via I-39/90. The two continue another 48 miles together before splitting south of Portage. 05/30/11

A directional cloverleaf interchange (Exits 142A/B) with left side ramps joins I-39/90 with U.S. 12/18 in one mile. Long range construction will rebuild this exchange to eliminate left side ramps. Alternatives include shifting the northbound roadway of I-39/90 to run in tandem with southbound with designs ranging between a two-level interchange to a three-level junction with a high flyover from U.S. 12/18 east to I-39/90 north. 05/30/11

Wis 30 extends west from Interstate 94, 3.4 miles to U.S. 151 (Washington Avenue) and Aberg Avenue by the Eken Park and Carpenter-Ridgeway neighborhoods. 05/30/11
Interstate 94 east quickly leaves the Madison area along a rural course to Cottage Grove. The busy freeway travels 70 miles to the Marquette Interchange (I-43/794) in Milwaukee. 05/30/11
