U.S. 90 east
Lowering from the Escambia River bridge into Santa Rosa County. The September 15, 2004 landfall of Hurricane Ivan washed out parts of the four-lane causeway between the bridge and the community of Pace. For a week, two-way traffic was routed onto the westbound lanes as crews scrambled to repair the eastbound carriageway. Photo taken 02/01/06.

Two additional bridges carry U.S. 90 eastbound travelers over the mouth of the Bannahassee, Dead, and Simpson Rivers and Bass Hole Cove. The westbound bridge over the Simpson River was replaced in 1997 and increased in height. Photos taken 01/30/06.
After traveling three miles along a causeway over the northern reaches of the Escambia Bay, U.S. 90 returns to solid ground ahead of its intersection with Santa Rosa County 197A (Woodbine Road). County Road 197A (Woodbine Road) connects U.S. 90 with County Road 184 (Quintette Road) west, County Road 197 (Chumuckla Highway) north and County Road 184A (Berryhill Road) east. Santa Rosa County 184 arcs westward along Quintette Road to near Cantonment in Escambia County. The Quintette Road causeway is one of only two Escambia River crossings north of the bay in Northwest Florida. Chumuckla Highway continues north toward Jay and Berryhill Road east to Milton. West Spencer Field Road comprises part of the loop that serves the Spencer Field U.S. Navy site north of Pea Ridge. County Road 197B turns west from West Spencer Field Road to Chumuckla Highway via Norris Road on a 1.762-mile route. W. Florida 281 provides the main access route between Interstate 10 (Exit 22) and the community of Pea Ridge. The state road ends at U.S. 90, adjacent to the Santa Rosa County 191 split from Avalon Boulevard along Old Bagdad Highway.
