Klondike Highway was completed south from White Pass and the Canadian Border to Skagway in 1981. Located just north of mile marker 11, the Captain William Henry Moore Bridge is a suspension bridge crossing Captain William Henry Moore Creek Gorge, a 180 foot deep chasm. With the foundation of the historic span weakening, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) constructed a replacement crossing, a roller compacted concrete (RCC) embankment with a 75 foot wide opening at the base for the creek, nearby as part of a $19 million project. Construction on the span commenced in April 2017 and was completed in Fall 2018. Built in 1976, the former bridge was repurposed as a pedestrian walkway and wayside park.1,2
