Alabama 17 overlays all of U.S. 45 north from Mobile with the exception of the northernmost 17 miles where Alabama 57 takes over. The portion of Alabama 17 along U.S. 45 in Washington County is fully posted. Near Deer Park, Alabama 17 leaves U.S. 45 and takes a northern turn to the Clarke county seat of Chatom.

Once in Washington County, SR 17 appears along side U.S. 45 to aid motorists headed north to Chatom. This assembly is located at Deer Park near the intersection CR 8, two miles south of the SR 17 and U.S. 45 separation. Photo taken 02/10/02.
