Alabama State Route 17 overlays U.S. 45 north from Mobile to Washington County, where SR 57 takes over along the northernmost 16 miles. The portion of SR 17 along U.S. 45 in Washington County is fully posted. Near Deer Park, SR 17 separates from U.S. 45 en route to the Clarke county seat of Chatom.

Once in Washington County, SR 17 appears alongside U.S. 45 to aid motorists headed north to Chatom. This assembly is located at Deer Park near the intersection CR 8, two miles south of the SR 17 and U.S. 45 separation. 02/10/02

South of York, SR 17 north meets U.S. 80 at a folded diamond interchange. Since expanded here to four lanes, U.S. 80 joins the I-20/59 corridor at Cuba with Demopolis, Selma and Montgomery to the east. 08/10/02
