Colorado 131 begins at Interstate 70 in Wolcott, then travels north through a variety of small towns until ending at U.S. 40 south of Steamboat Springs. The 68.72 mile highway provides the most direct route from I-70 to Steamboat Springs.

U.S. 6 West Colorado Highway 131 North
U.S. 6 leads SH 131 west to its continuation (Route 131A) north to State Bridge, Yampa, Phippsburg and Oak Creek. This confirming marker for U.S. 6 west after SH 131 south was corrected to show a north banner for SH 131 by 2008. Photo taken 08/27/04.

Colorado Highway 131 North
A substandard bridge used to carry SH 131 north from U.S. 6 across the Eagle River. The narrow width span was replaced by 2008 with a modern crossing. Photo taken 08/27/04.
This mileage sign provided the distance to Bond (17 miles), McCoy (21 miles) and Steamboat Springs (74 miles). A replacement made by 2009 switched Bond with State Bridge (14 miles) and McCoy with Oak Bridge (51 miles). Photo taken 08/27/04.
After the narrow eagle River bridge, a second Colorado 131 reassurance marker is placed, this time without the directional banner. Just prior to reaching State Bridge and the intersection with Trough Road, northbound Colorado 131 crosses the Colorado River. Photo taken 08/27/04.
Northbound Colorado 131 reaches Trough Road, which follows the Colorado River and a railroad east toward Kremmling and a junction with U.S. 40 and Colorado 9. Trough Road is not a state highway, but it is designated as County Route 1 in Grand County and is unnumbered in Eagle County. Colorado 131, meanwhile, continues north toward Steamboat Springs.
