Mobile County Route 72 lines Howells Ferry Road east from a boat ramp on Big Creek Lake to suburban areas of Semmes and U.S. 98 (Moffett Road) in northwest Mobile. Similar to Tanner Williams Road, Howells Ferry Road was also partitioned with the creation of the man-made reservoir. The rural western section of Howells Ferry Road spurs east from CR 5 as a local road to Big Creek Lake and west from CR 5 as Mobile County Route 74 to the Mississippi state line.
