County Road 48 and State Road 48 follow a number of rural roads across Citrus, Sumter and Lake Counties in Central Florida. Beginning in Floral City, CR 48 runs 12.12 miles southeast along Bushnell Road to the Withlacoochee River and east from Wahoo to Interstate 75 in the city of Bushnell.
Expanding into a four lane arterial, SR 48 continues the route east from a diamond interchange with I-75 onto Belt Avenue. The 2.17 mile long state maintained stretch turns south onto Main Street at CR 475 two blocks to U.S. 301 at Noble Avenue. U.S. 301 and SR 48/CR 48 overlap along Main Street for a half mile to Seminole Avenue (CR 476).
CR 48 branches east from U.S. 301 (Main Street) alongside CR 476 on Seminole Avenue 0.3 miles to Florida Street at Southland Avenue and CR 476A. CR 48 shifts southward to Lincoln Park and continues east to Haywood Pond, SR 471 at Bevilles Corner and CR 478 in the city of Center Hill.
Heading northeast from CR 469 and Market Street in Center Hill, CR 48 continues into Lake County. The rural highway bee lines across Wilson Marsh, and between Reed Hammock Pond and Clearwater Lake, to CR 33 at Okahumpka. The eastern leg of CR 48 extends from CR 33/470, 8.08 miles to Yalaha off Lake Harris and SR 19 in the town of Howey In The Hills.
A separate branch of County Road 48 stems east from CR 561 (Monroe Street) in the town of Astatula along Florida Avenue. The rural highway leads 4.32 miles east to CR 448A, which it joins north a half mile to Duda Road. CR 48 concludes 0.57 miles east along Duda Road at the Orange County line.
A mileage swap between Sumter County and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) transferred SR 48 west from Main Street to I-75 to the county and CR 470 east from I-75 to the state. Despite the replacement of SR 48 shields with CR 48 pentagons in Bushnell, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Straight Line Diagrams and GIS have yet to reference the change.
