Florida State Road 277 angles 14.20 miles northeast from SR 79 in Vernon to U.S. 90 outside Chipley. The rural highway parallels Holmes Creek northward to Brock Crossroad and CR 280. Spanning I-10, SR 277 passes by Hamm Bay ahead of Brickyard Road (CR 280) and South Boulevard (CR 273) east into the city of Chipley.
County Road 277 branches north from CR 166 (Old Bonifay Road) to the northwest of Chipley along Cope Road. Crossing into western Jackson County, CR 277 runs 2.75 miles to CR 162 (Tri County Road), where an implied overlap leads the route northeast to Piano Road. CR 277 resumes along Piano Road north between Hicks Old Bay and Broom Bay for 5.15 to SR 77 south of Graceville.
Four lane expansion of SR 79 included the realignment of SR 277 southward to Court Avenue. The old alignment remains as a local street encircling Stephen J. Roche Park.
CR 277 (Earlston Road) south crosses Gum Creek between Benchoff Road west and Gum Creek Road east.
CR 164 (Lovewood Road) stems east from CR 277 to Richter Crossroads and U.S. 231 north of Cottondale.
