Business Spur I-29 travels 2.5 miles east from a 2006-completed SPUI (Exit 79) with Interstate 29 to Downtown Sioux Falls along 12th Street and the one-way street couplet of 10th and 11th Streets. Maintained by the city of Sioux Falls since 2006, the route is signed as "Downtown" Spur I-29 and runs in tandem with locally maintained South Dakota 42.
Business Spur I-29 overlays former U.S. 16 west of Downtown. The east end of the route coincides with the south end of Business Spur I-90, the historic route of U.S. 77 along Minnesota Avenue. Business Loop I-229 follows Minnesota Avenue (old U.S. 77) south from the east end and the 10th/11th Street couplet (old U.S. 16 and SD 38) east from the city center.
