Interstate 37 U.S. 281 South

The first mainline exit of Interstate 37 south lowers to Elm Street and Brooklyn Avenue. Elm Street forms a west side frontage street to McCullough Avenue west and Nolan Street east. Four through lanes are maintained through the Downtown area on southbound. 12/31/02
Back to back off-ramps depart in quick succession from IH 37 & U.S. 281 south for Houston and Commerce Streets west to Downtown and the San Antonio Riverwalk. 12/31/02
The Commerce Street exit also serves the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Saint Paul Square and the Downtown Amtrak Station among other points of interest. 12/31/02
Exit 140B takes motorists along a flyover above Montana Street to Cesar E. Chavez (formerly Durango) Boulevard just south of the Alamodome. IH 37 and IH 10 come together in 1.5 miles. 12/31/02
With traffic from Montana Street merging from the right, Interstate 37 & U.S. 281 southbound passes the Alamodome on the half mile approach to Exit 140A for Florida and Carolina Streets. 12/31/02

Passing over Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard, drivers on IH 37 & U.S. 281 continue south one mile to the four-level interchange (Exit 139) with IH 10. 12/31/02
A lane drop along IH 37 south occurs at Exit 139 for Interstate 10, U.S. 87 and U.S. 90. U.S. 90 overlaps with IH 10 west to I-35 and the Cleto Rodriguez Freeway west to Lackland A.F.B. and C.W. Anderson Loop (LP 1604). Eastward Interstate 10 and U.S. 90 intermingle all the way to the city of Jacksonville, Florida. 12/31/02
IH 37 ascends onto a viaduct spanning two railroad lines, Boyer Avenue and Drexel Avenue just ahead of the separation with Exit 139. U.S. 87 navigates through San Antonio along Interstates 10 and 35, branching east from the freeway system, 2.2 miles to the east at Rigsby Avenue. 12/31/02
Two lanes part ways from IH 37 & U.S. 281 south for IH 10 east to Sequin and Houston and west to Kerrville and El Paso. 12/31/02
