Interstate 44 through Oklahoma travels northeast from the Red River south of Randlett to the northeastern corner of the state adjacent to the Kansas state line. Four sections of IH 44 are tolled in the Sooner State. 24.52 miles in length, the southern section of the H.E. Bailey Turnpike leads IH 44 north from U.S. 70 near Randlett to U.S. 277/SH 36 near Lawton. The northern section of the H.E. Bailey Turnpike stretches 61.08 miles northeast from Lawton toward Oklahoma City between sections of U.S. 62/277.
The Turner Turnpike takes IH 44 northeast from IH 35 and the John Kilpatrick Turnpike in Oklahoma City 86.22 miles to SW 49th Avenue at Sapulpa. The Will Rogers Turnpike extends northeast from the Tulsa and Fair Oaks city line where IH 244/U.S. 412 meet, 87.97 miles to the Missouri state line near Loma Linda.
Combined with U.S. 277/281 and U.S. 62 beyond Rogers Lane, Interstate 44 through Lawton is toll free. U.S. 62 accompanies IH 44 north from the end of the Bailey Turnpike across the Canadian River into Oklahoma City. IH 44 runs east of Will Rogers World Airport at IH 240 and over the Oklahoma River to meet IH 40 by the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds. The route loops northeast around Oklahoma City along overlaps with SH 3 and SH 66 (Historic U.S. 66) to an overlap with IH 35 north to the Will Rogers Turnpike.
Through Tulsa Interstate 44 follows Skelly Drive, an older expressway rebuilt over the course of several projects. An urban loop, IH 244, joins IH 44 with Downtown as Skelly Drive passes well to the south and east.

East
Constructed in the 1950s, the I-44 West End corridor, between the western split with I-244 and the Arkansas River in Tulsa is the oldest section of Interstate highway remaining in the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) system. A $45 million Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant was awarded to ODOT in 2018 to improve the corridor. Starting on January 25, 2021, a $90 million project followed at the exchange joining I-44/U.S. 75. Two years of road work widens I-44 to six lanes from the west side of the Arkansas River to Union Avenue. The first of five phases, this project also replaces five bridges and reconfigures the cloverleaf interchange at U.S. 75 to match the geometry and tie into the new U.S. 75 spans over I-44. Future phases are still being developed.1
Major construction started along the I-44 East End corridor in 2009 wrapped up in Fall 2020. I-44 was expanded to eight overall lanes from the eastern split with I-244 to the exchange at SH 167. Several bridges were replaced and two interchanges were reconstructed. Costing over $120 million, five projects were completed to improve the gateway into Tulsa and Catoosa.2
