Heading south through Goodlettsville, Interstate 65 next meets Rivergate Parkway at a parclo interchange (Exit 96) in one mile.

Rivergate Parkway stems south from U.S. 41/31W (Dickerson Pike) to U.S. 31E (Gallatin Pike) at Rivergate Mall and Myatt Drive. Rivergate Parkway provides a Breezewood connection to SR 386 (Vietnam Veterans Boulevard), a 15 mile long freeway paralleling U.S. 31E east from I-65 to Hendersonville and Gallatin.

Interstate 24 East Interstate 65 South

The Downtown skyline of Nashville comes into view as I-24/65 combine two thirds of a mile ahead of Exit 87 with U.S. 431 (Trinity Lane). Construction through 2015 expanded this stretch to ten lanes.

U.S. 431 takes Trinity Lane east from Whites Creek Road near Brooklyn Heights across I-24/65 to turn south along parallel U.S. 31W/41 (Dickerson Pike) by the Highland Heights community.

Exit 87 leaves I-24/65 south for U.S. 431 (Trinity Lane) a half mile ahead of the split at Exit 86.
Exit 87 is a six-ramp parclo interchange with U.S. 431 (Trinity Lane) and adjacent Brick Church Pike. Loop ramps from I-24/65 to U.S. 431 were previously removed.

Four lanes of I-24/65 advance another half mile to a directional T interchange (Exit 86). Through traffic to I-40 is partitioned between the west and east loops around Downtown Nashville. This was a result of the October 2000 renumbering of I-265 as I-65.

Interstate 65 overtakes former I-265 west across the Cumberland River to Metrocenter and Salemtown and an overlap with I-40 east by Downtown. I-40 leads west from Nashville to Jackson and Memphis.

Three lanes continue southward along I-24 to McFerrin Park and Nissan Stadium (home of the NFL Tennessee Titans) before the route combines with Interstate 40 east.

Exit 86 represents the continuation of Interstate 24 east to Murfreesboro and Chattanooga and Knoxville via I-40 east. Southbound travelers headed to Franklin and Huntsville, Alabama are directed to remain along I-65 south.

Turning westward, Interstate 65 spans the Cumberland River across the Lyle H. Fulton Memorial Bridge. The six lane bridge opened in 1967.

The lone exit along the former Interstate 265 mainline is the diamond interchange with U.S. 41A (Rosa L Parks Boulevard) at MetroCenter.

U.S. 41A follows Rosa L Parks Boulevard east from Clarksville Pike and the Bordeaux community to the Tennessee State Capitol complex at U.S. 31/431 (James Robertson Parkway).

U.S. 41A (Rosa L Parks Boulevard) runs south through Salemtown and Germantown to eventually combine with U.S. 31/431 along 8th Avenue. I-65 converges with Interstate 40 east along western reaches of the central business district via Exit 84 A.

Interstate 40 East Interstate 65 South

Interstate 65 south combines with I-40 east for 2.17 miles along Downtown Nashville. Exit 209 departs next for U.S. 70 (Charlotte Avenue).

Charlotte Avenue leads east from U.S. 70 to the Tennessee State Capitol. Other area points of interest include Fisk University to the northwest via Dr. D.B. Todd, Jr. Drive and Vanderbilt University along U.S. 70S (West End Avenue) west via Exit 209A.

Succeeding exits connect I-40/65 east with the frontage streets of 14th Avenue south and George L. Davis Boulevard north at Exits 209 and 209 A. U.S. 70 utilizes the adjacent streets south from Charlotte Avenue to Broadway, where it combines with U.S. 70S/431 into the central business district.

Exit 209B follows onto 14th Avenue south ahead of Broadway. U.S. 70-70S-431 take Broadway east to 8th Avenue (U.S. 31/41-41A). Demonbreun Street parallels Broadway to the south, linking I-40/65 with Music City Center and Bridgestone Arena (home of the Nashville Predators).
I-40/65 south part ways in one mile at a three-wye interchange (Exit 210).

Curving east by the Edgehill community, I-40/65 pass under 12th Avenue S ahead of their split. I-65 resumes a southerly course through Berry Hill to Oak Hill to vacate Nashville-Davidson County at the suburb of Brentwood. I-40 continues a short distance east to I-24 just south of the Cumberland River.

U.S. 31 (8th Avenue S) passes under the freeway as I-65 partitions with I-40 east for Franklin, Spring Hill and Huntsville, Alabama. I-40 remains east to Nashville International Airport (BNA), Lebanon and Knoxville.
