Measuring 225 miles across the state, Interstate 70 in Ohio travels east from Richmond, Indiana to Wheeling, West Virginia. Passing through the northern suburbs of Dayton, I-70 passes through the smaller cities of Englewood, Vandalia and Huber Heights. I-75 and I-675 join I-70 with Dayton.

Continuing east, I-70 heads to the Clark County seat of Springfield and north of the Madison County seat of London. Through Columbus and Franklin County, I-70 leads directly to Downtown, where it combines with I-71 south of the central business district. A beltway (I-270) encircles the capital city and an urban loop (I-670) leads to John Glenn Columbus International Airport and I-270 at Gahanna.

Interstate 70 leaves Columbus at Reynoldsburg, transitioning into a rural route south of parallel U.S. 40. I-70 joins the the Muskingum County seat of Zanesville, the Guernsey County seat of Cambridge and the Belmont County seat of Saint Clairsville in eastern Ohio. Advancing to the Ohio River and West Virginia state line, a bypass of Wheeling (I-470) branches south ahead of Bridgeport.
