Leaving Ogden along Interstate 74 west. 26,400 vehicles per day (vpd) were counted by IDOT along this segment of I-74 in 2011. This increased to 30,700 vpd in 2017. 05/07/18

N Main Street and CR 2200 E come together at a diamond interchange (Exit 192) with Interstate 74 in St. Joseph. A large subdivision lines the south side of the freeway between I-74 and U.S. 150 to Main Street. 05/07/18
Exit 192 parts ways with Interstate 74 west to N Main Street. CR Road 2200 E leads north to become Champaign County Route 12 en route to Flatville. U.S. 150 follows Warren Street across St. Joseph to the south. 05/07/18
Leaving St. Joseph, Interstate 74 west crosses the Salt Fork of the Vermilion River for a second time. 05/07/18
Although still rural, a community interchanges identification sign outlines the succeeding five exits for the Champaign-Urban urban area. IL 130 links I-74 with University Avenue (U.S. 150) in two miles followed by a diamond interchange (Exit 184) with Cunningham Avenue (U.S. 45) in three miles. 05/07/18
Champaign is home to the University of Illinois. The campus lies southwest of University Avenue and Lincoln Avenue, with Exit 183 connecting I-74 to Lincoln Avenue. Memorial Stadium, home of Fighting Illini football, lies along Kirby Avenue near the heart of campus. Motorists bound for the stadium are directed onto University Avenue west from Exit 185. 11/04/11

IL 130 initially comprises a 0.66 mile long expressway spur connecting I-74 with U.S. 150southwest of Exit 185. U.S. 150 overtakes the arterial along University Avenue west into central Urbana while IL 130 south joins U.S. 150 east 1.15 miles to High Cross Road. 05/07/18
CR 1600 E heads north from the east split of IL 130 and U.S. 150 to pass over Interstate 74 at Exit 185. IL 130 travels 136 miles overall between Urbana and Grayville, north of I-64 and west of the Wabash River. 05/07/18

U.S. 45, a 1,297 mile route between Mobile, Alabama and Ontonagon, Michigan, follows Cunningham Avenue northeast from U.S. 150 (University Avenue) to Interstate 74 at Exit 184 in Urbana. 05/07/18
U.S. 45 was replaced by Interstate 57 as the main highway connecting Effingham, Mattoon, Champaign-Urbana, Kankakee and Chicago. U.S. 45 offers an alternate to the freeway while doubling as the main route between adjacent villages such as Thomasboro and Rantoul to the north. 05/07/18
U.S. 45 (Cunningham Avenue) travels 13 miles north to Rantoul, where the route intersects U.S. 136. 1.30 miles southward from I-74, U.S. 45 combines with U.S. 150 along University Avenue west, from outside Downtown Urbana 2.27 miles to Neil Street in Downtown Champaign. 05/07/18
Continuing west, Interstate 74 advances to the diamond interchange (Exit 183) with Lincoln Avenue at the industrial north side of Urbana. 05/07/18
An auxiliary lane accompanies Interstate 74 in each direction, bringing the overall freeway to six lanes between Exits 184 and 183. 05/07/18
Lincoln Avenue leads south from Exit 183 to both the Champaign County Fairgrounds and the east side of the University of Illinois campus. North from I-74, Lincoln Avenue extends 1.98 miles through an industrial area served by a Canadian National Railroad corridor to Olympian Drive. 11/04/11
I-74 crosses the Saline Branch Drainage Ditch a half mile from Lincoln Avenue. $19 million in construction projected for 2015 lengthened Lincoln Avenue northward to an extension of Olympian Drive east. Olympian Drive is an arterial connecting with I-57 at Exit 238 to the west and U.S. 45 (Cunningham Avenue) to the east. Work on Olympian Drive was scheduled for 2013-15.1 05/07/18

Interstate 74 rises to cross a Canadian National Railroad yard west from Exit 183. Again auxiliary lanes expand the freeway to six lanes. 05/07/18
Neil Street is the first of two Champaign exits from Interstate 74 west. Neil Street, and Prospect Avenue at Exit 181, serve a sprawling retail area anchored by the Market Place retail complex and several big box stores. 05/07/18
Neil Street leads south from a diamond interchange (Exit 182) with I-74 to Downtown Champaign. U.S. 45 joins the street from Springfield Avenue (U.S. 150) to the University of Illinois and the village of Savoy. 05/07/18
Anthony Drive follows the north side of Interstate 74 as a service road linking Neil Street and Prospect Avenue via Marketview Drive. A number of lodging amenities line the roadway. 05/07/18
Prospect Avenue and I-74 come together at a commercialized diamond interchange (Exit 181), just north of the U.S. 150 turn from Prospect onto Bloomington Road. U.S. 150 follows the avenue south to Springfield Avenue and the east end of IL 10.

Prospect Avenue heads north from Exit 181 to leave the city beyond Olympian Drive. U.S. 150 (Bloomington Road) parallels the south side of I-74 west from Prospect Avenue to circumvent the forthcoming cloverstack interchange (Exits 179 B/A) with Interstate 57. 05/07/18
Anthony Drive resumes west from Prospect Avenue as the frontage road for I-74 to Mattis Avenue (CR 1). Phase 4 of the Interstate 57/74 Interchange Reconstruction project expands I-74 with auxiliary lanes between Prospect Avenue and Duncan Road. Construction started in 2022 with an anticipated completion in 2025. 05/07/18
Previous signs for Exit 179 referenced Interstate 72 alongside I-57 south. I-72 begins west in Champaign from a freeway spur linking Church Street and County Fair Drive With I-57. I-72 meets I-57 at Exit 235 just south of I-74 before leaving the Champaign-Urbana area for Decatur. 05/07/18
Interstate 72 originally joined Springfield with Champaign, with completion of that route in 1976. Further lengthening of the route followed in April 1995 when I-72 was signed along the freeway completed in 1991 on U.S. 36 west from I-55 to Hull. 05/07/18
Interstate 57, along with I-55 to the west, constitutes one of two major trucking corridors joining Chicago with the Deep South region. I-57 ends in Chicago, 122 miles to the north at the Dan Ryan Expressway (Interstate 94). 05/07/18
Beyond the last Champaign area exit for Olympian Drive, I-57 heads north from Exit 179 B, 73 miles to the city for Kankakee and 133 miles to Chicago. Ramp reconstruction at I-57/74 broke ground on August 23, 2021. Work extends into 2024. 05/07/18
Memphis, 417 miles to the south, is signed for Interstate 57 from Exit 179 A for the connection with I-55 south from Sikeston, Missouri. The freeway is generally rural otherwise with urban stretches at Effingham (with I-70) and Mt. Vernon (with I-64). 33,600 vehicles per day (vpd) were recorded between I-74 and I-72 in 2011. Counts in the 23,000 vpd range were recorded elsewhere in the area. 05/07/18
Interstate 74 leaves Champaign by the Clearview project along parallel Olympian Drive The 563 acre site was envisioned for a 290 acre office park, a regional medical center and a large housing development.2 05/07/18
The origin of the Kaskaskia River is located along Interstate 74 on Yankee Ridge. The waterway initially flows south through Kaskaskia Ditch. 05/07/18
Two exits remain in Champaign County along Interstate 74 west from I-57. A diamond interchange (Exit 174) joins the freeway with Prairieview Road in eastern reaches of Mahomet. 05/07/18
Forthcoming Prairieview Road leads (CR 50) north from U.S. 150 (Oak Street) and CR 525 E to the Lake of the Woods community. 05/07/18
U.S. 150 parallels I-74, 0.20 miles south of Exit 174. Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve lies northwest of Exit 174 along Lake of the Woods Road. 05/07/18
Interstate 74 continues westward through the village of Mahomet and spans the Sangamon River on the ensuing stretch. 05/07/18
IL 47 (Lombard Street) meets Interstate 74 at Exit 172 just north of the Mahomet business district in one mile. The state route extends 7.16 miles miles south to IL 10. 05/07/18
CR 50 (Lake of the Woods Road) passes over Interstate 74 a half mile from Exit 172. IL 47 continues north from Mahomet 18 miles to Gibson City. 05/07/18

Exit 159 leaves Interstate 74 west just beyond Salt Creek at the city of Farmer City. IL 54 follows Clinton Avenue along a routing that bypasses much of Farmer City to the east. The state route heads west to Clinton and northeast to Gibson City otherwise. 05/07/18
U.S. 150 angles northwest out of Farmer City to pass under Interstate 74 within a mile of the Farmland Rest Area. 05/07/18
The Farmland Rest Area, the second facility along Interstate 74 west in Illinois, lies south of the former railroad siding of Watkins. 05/07/18
Interstate 74 enters McLean County between the Old Principal Road overpass and mile marker 155. 05/07/18
U.S. 136, which parallels Interstate 74 west from Indianapolis to Danville, finally converges with the freeway again at Exit 152 near the old railroad siding of Empire. 05/07/18
U.S. 136 stretches 213 miles across the state from east of Danville to the Mississippi River at Hamilton. The highway bee lines 28 miles east from Exit 152 to Rantoul, which was previously referenced from Interstate 74 at Exit 184 for U.S. 45. 05/07/18
