South Carolina 901 winds northward from Lando and Edgemoor to meet Interstate 77 at the Exit 73 diamond interchange in one mile. Photo taken 06/01/12.
Following Mt. Holly Road north, South Carolina 901 enters the city of Rock Hill ahead of junction S.C. 72 and 121 (Saluda Street / Albright Road). The state highway follows the Heckle Bypass around the west side of Rock Hill to S.C. 161 and 274. The bypass originated in the 1965 Rock Hill Area Transportation Study1 and its first section opened in summer 1976 between Albright Road (S.C. 121) and South Carolina 322. The 3.6-mile section between Main Street (S.C. 5) and S.C. 161 opened to traffic on January 29, 1990 after two years of construction.2 Photo taken 06/01/12.

South Carolina 160, an 11-mile route between U.S. 521 and the North Carolina state line, crosses Interstate 77 at the Exit 85 diamond interchange. Exit 85 parts ways with Interstate 77 north for South Carolina 160 (Steele Creek Road). South Carolina 160 follows White Street into downtown Fort Mill, briefly overlapping with U.S. 21 Business. Westward, the state highway serves interests to the city of Tega Cay.

U.S. 21 north merges onto Interstate 77 ahead of the four-level interchange (Exit 1) with Interstate 485, the Charlotte Beltway. The former alignment of U.S. 21 took the route east along Pineville-Rock Hill Road (S.C. 51 and N.C. 51) to Pineville, NC and the original northern terminus of U.S. 521. Interstate 77 U.S. 21 North
Interstate 485 encircles Charlotte along a 67-mile path that is complete except for a portion of the northeast quadrant. The freeway generally serves commuter interests, especially the stretch east from Interstate 77 to Pineville and Matthews. The western third of the beltway provides a bypass route for through travelers along Interstate 77 to Huntersville. Photo taken 06/01/12.
