Travelers bound for U.S. 1 (Patrick Street north / Richmond Highway south) must use the Local Lanes of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to access Exits 177B/A. Exit 177C to Washington Street via Church Street couples with Exit 177B to Patrick Street and Alexandria. Photo taken 08/04/13.
Washington Street and the Woodrow Wilson Trail, a pedestrian / bike path, pass together above Interstates 95 & 495, west of Jones Point Park. The trail element of the span adds vegetation above the Capital Beltway.

Exits 177C/B depart the Local Lanes of Interstates 95 & 495 south and quickly partition. Church Street leads one block east to Washington Street (Virginia 400). A trumpet interchange and access road comprise Exit 173 between Interstates 95 & 495 and Van Dorn Street (SSR 613). Van Dorn Street exists as Virginia 401 north from the city of Alexandria line to Virginia 420 (Seminary Road). Southward SSR 613 follows Van Dorn Street to Telegraph Road (SSR 611) near Kingstowne. A trailblazer references the November 17, 2012-opened Express lanes of Interstate 495 leading north from Springfield to Tysons Corner. The High Occupancy/Toll (HO/T) lanes allow registered carpool users access to the lanes for free while charging variable toll rates based upon time of day and traffic congestion. A two mile stretch of ten lane freeway through Backlick Stream Valley Park precedes the Exit 170 junction with Interstate 395 (Henry G. Shirley Memorial Highway) north. Directional ramps depart from the left for the reversible HOV roadways of I-395 north and I-95 south. A nearly $1-billion project is underway through early 2015 to expand and extend the HOV roadway southward to Stafford County. Portions of the high flyovers associated with the Springfield Interchange come into view as I-95/495 descend from the Blue Line underpass. Interstate 95 uses multiple roadways leading south from the beltway to the multi level interchange with SSR 644 (Franconia Road).
