U.S. 29 continues east from the Perimeter Highway along an industrial corridor adjacent to the CSX Railroad to the Tucker city center. Forthcoming Exit 39 joins I-285 with U.S. 78/SR 410 (Stone Mountain Freeway) east to Stone Mountain Village and Stone Mountain Park. Stone Mountain Park surrounds Stone Mountain (el. 1,686 feet) with an array of attractions including an aerial tram, a scenic railroad, a laser light show and the Confederate Memorial stone carving. 07/02/17
The Stone Mountain Freeway stretches ten miles east from Scott Boulevard near Decatur to Mountain Park in Gwinnett County. Designated also a SR 410 west of Stone Mountain and SR 10 east of it, the freeway was once included in a proposal for a toll road extending west into Atlanta as part of Interstate 485. 07/02/17

Southbound I-285 reaches the diamond interchange (Exit 41) with SR 10 (Memorial Drive). Memorial Drive becomes SR 154 southwest from Mountain Drive nearby to Avondale Estates and the East Lake neighborhood of Atlanta. 07/02/17
U.S. 278/SR 10 separate from U.S. 29/78 (Ponce De Leon Avenue) and head east through the cities of Decatur and Avondale Estates to split at Mountain Road near Exit 41. U.S. 278 combines with SR 12 southeast from there along Covington Highway, meeting I-285 at Exit 43 in 1.25 miles. 07/02/17
A wye interchange (Exit 42 on I-285 north) provides access to the Indian Creek Transit (MARTA) Center by this Interstate 285 south confirming marker. 07/02/17
Redan Road crosses Interstate 285, one half mile north of the diamond interchange (Exit 43) with U.S. 278 (Covington Highway). 07/02/17
U.S. 278 (Covington Highway) constitutes a four lane boulevard leading southeast from Exit 43 to Glen Haven, Belmont and Lithonia. U.S. 278 converges with Interstate 20 in 9.6 miles, with the two overlapping east to Covington. 07/02/17

Arrow per lane (APL) signs were erected along I-285 south for I-20 (Exit 46) by December of 2016. The forthcoming exchange consists of a directional cloverleaf interchange, where the original southbound lanes were repurposed into a collector distributor roadway. The reconfiguration eliminated left side ramps by moving I-285 south to run alongside I-285 north. 07/02/17
Interstate 20 west crosses Atlanta from East Atlanta to the south edge of Downtown, the West End and Adamsville. East from Exit 46, I-20 travels 130 miles to Augusta. 07/02/17
