Interstate 490 is a 2.57 mile long route in the city of Cleveland connecting I-71/90 at Tremont with I-77 and E 55th Street between the Industrial Valley and North Broadway neighborhoods. The urban freeway east will connect with the Opportunity Corridor, an at-grade boulevard under construction to E 105th Street at University Circle.
The Opportunity Corridor will join the Garden Valley, Kinsman and Fairafx neighborhoods with Interstate 490. The boulevard partially replaced what would have been Interstate 290 leading east to Shaker Heights and I-271 at Beachwood. I-290 was dropped due to community opposition. The completed portion west from E 55th Street was subsequently renumbered as I-490.
Interstate 490 is the Troy Lee James Highway. The designation was signed into law by the Ohio General Assembly in 2002, after the former Ohio House of Representative member.
