Interstate 510 overlays Louisiana Highway 47 through New Orleans East south from I-10 near Little Woods to Michoud and the Intracoastal Waterway south to St. Bernard Parish and Chalmette. Completed in 1992, I-510 replaced Paris Road (old LA 47). LA 47 constitutes an "L" shaped route measuring 16.19 miles between LA 46 (St. Bernard Highway) at Chalmette and Downman Road near New Orleans Lakefront Airport (NEW).
The alignment of Interstate 510 was originally proposed as the eastern leg of the planned south New Orleans beltway (Interstate 410).
