
Kansas Highway 18 is a 205.73 mile long highway from U.S. 24 north of Bogue in the Smoky Hills region to K-99 east of Manhattan and Wabaunsee. K-18 follows a rural corridor east between U.S. 24 and I-70/U.S. 40 to Lincoln and Junction City. K-18 overlaps with U.S. 77 south and I-70/U.S. 40 east to bypass Junction City and Grandview Plaza. K-18 branches northeast from Interstate 70 along an 11.25 mile freeway to Fort Riley and K-113 in the city of Manhattan.

Supporting the rapid growth of Fort Riley and the city of Manhattan in Riley County, the K-18 Corridor Improvement Project upgraded seven miles of K-18 to a freeway between Ogden and Manhattan. Costing $80.3 million,1
the first of three phases begin in Summer 2009. Widening of K-18 from 61st Avenue to 52nd Avenue and work at the exchange with 56th Avenue for Manhattan Regional Airport (MHK) commenced on September 20, 2010.2 Phase one work on the project continued to late 2012.1Construction on the final two phases for the K-18 Corridor Improvement Project got underway on July 5, 2011. Costing $55.4 million, work upgraded K-18 from just east of Miller Parkway/Davis Drive and west to Wildcat Creek Road.3
The ribbon cutting ceremony for the K-18 Corridor Improvement Project took place in Manhattan on November 15, 2013.1 The diamond interchange with Miller Parkway/Davis Drive fully opened to traffic a week later on November 22. Finishing work and clean up for the project continued to Spring 2014.4
