MD 274 links the town of Rising Sun with MD 272 at Bay View. MD 272 south in turn connects with Interstate 95 and U.S. 40 near North East. The 7.35 mile long route ends in Downtown Rising Sun at MD 273 (Main Street).

A truck route for MD 274 overlapped with MD 272 (North East Road) north from Joseph Biggs Memorial Highway to MD 273. The truck route continued westward along MD 273 (Telegraph Road) to Queen Street in Rising Sun.

Entering Downtown Rising Sun, MD 274 (Queen Street) concludes at MD 273 (Main Street). With origins dating back to 1720, the town derived its name from a local tavern with a sign depicting a rising sun and the phrase "The Rising Sun." The business was popular among locals and the name Rising Sun became synonymous with the area. 07/25/04
MD 273 (Main Street) crosses Rising Sun west to MD 276 (Jacob Tome Memorial Highway) at Harrisville and U.S. 1 (Conowingo Road). MD 273 east to Half Mile Turn and Sylmar Road north represents pre-1956 alignment of U.S. 1. 07/25/04
