Maine 196 follows the Coastal Connector between Interstate 295, U.S. 201, Maine 24 and U.S. 1. The connector joins Brunswick with Topsham across the Androscoggin River. Overall the state route runs 19.41 miles between U.S. 202 & Maine 11-100 in Lewiston to U.S. 1 in Brunswick.


Maine 196 east
Maine 196 (Coastal Connector) eastbound enters the intersection with the Maine 24 connector in eastern Topsham. Maine 196 follows a bypass route between U.S. 201 (Main Street) and the Androscoggin River outside of central Topsham. Drivers bound for Maine 24 (Elm Street / Middlesex Road) turn off Maine 196 (Coastal Connector) for the short access road between the two routes.
