North Carolina Highway 99 is a 33.31 mile route from southern Beaufort County along Pamlico Sound to western Washington County. NC 99 originates at a shared end point with NC 92 east and NC 306 north from the free ferry connecting Aurora to Bayview. Heading northeast, NC 99 leads to Ransomsville, Sidney and the town of Belhaven.
NC 99 combines with U.S. 264 northwest for 3.67 miles from Belhaven to Pantego. The state route turns back to the northeast from Pantego to Pungo and NC 45 at Union Grove. The remainder of NC 99 north to Wenona and NC 32 across East Dismal Swamp coincides with NC 45.
