
U.S. 23 in Michigan travels 366 miles north from the Ohio state line at Whiteford Township to I-75 at Mackinaw City, just south of the Mackinac Bridge. Bypassing the Detroit metropolitan area to the west, U.S. 23 is a limited access highway from Petersburg and Milan north to Ann Arbor, where it combines with M-14 west to 2.02 miles. The freeway extends north to I-96 at Brighton, Linden and I-75 southwest of Flint.
I-75/U.S. 23 combine from the west side of Flint north to Saginaw, Bay City and Lincoln Township west of Saginaw Bay. The remainder of U.S. 23 is rural, heading east from Standish to Au Gres along Saginaw Bay. Straddling the west lakeshore of Lake Huron, U.S. 23 continues to Tawas City, Harrisville, Alpena, Rogers City and Cheboygan.
