The Jefferson Street Viaduct takes U.S. 34 Business across the Des Moines River into Downtown Ottumwa. The deck truss bridge was built in 1936 and rehabilitated in 1984.1 The Market Street Bridge spanning the Des Moines River at Ottumwa was built in 1972 and reconstructed in 2015.2 04/12/13

U.S. 34 Business is one of two bannered routes serving Downtown Ottumwa along with U.S. 63 Business along Wapello Street. U.S. 34 Business branches northeast from a split diamond interchange with the U.S. 34/63 Business expressway by the Bridge View Center. Spanning the Des Moines River across the Jefferson Street Bridge, U.S. 34 Business enters the central business district at Main Street. Main Street leads the 1.8 mile long route east back to U.S. 34/63 at Roemer Avenue.

Church Street parallels U.S. 34 Business (Jefferson Street) north from the exchange with U.S. 34/63 Business along the west side of the Bridge View Center. 04/12/13

U.S. 34 Business West
Spanning the Des Moines River, U.S. 34 Business parallels Market Street to the south. Further upriver are the Ottumwa Hydro-electric Dam and U.S. 63 Business bridge along Wapello Street. 04/12/13
With a 33.1 foot wide deck, the Jefferson Street Viaduct measures 2,120.5 feet in length.1 04/12/13
U.S. 34 Business lowers from the Jefferson Street Viaduct into the split diamond interchange with U.S. 34/63 Business. Cook Avenue returns the route to the freeway westbound. 04/12/13
