U.S. 62 Business follows Pine Avenue 2.30 miles west from U.S. 62 (Walnut Avenue) to NY 104 (Main Street) and the Niagara Falls Business District. U.S. 62 parallels the business route along a couplet of Walnut Avenue west and Ferry Avenue east to the immediate south.
U.S. 62 Business was established in the early 1980s as New York State Route 62A when U.S. 62 was realigned southward from Pine Avenue onto the couplet of Walnut/Ferry Avenues to alleviate traffic congestion. With correspondence to the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) in a letter dated November 1, 2005, the city of Niagara Falls supported changing NY 62A to U.S. 62 Business in an effort to promote the Pine Avenue Business District. NYSDOT concurred with the request, submitting an application to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) for the establishment of U.S. 62 Business on February 10, 2006. The application was subsequently approved by AASHTO on May 6, 2006.
